OMG WTF is wrong with the controlls
As I played over the last hour, the controller keeps remaping its self to other controls as I'm racing and playing. I have tried Xbox 360 controller, Xbox 1S Controller, and a Steel Series third party controller, all have weird button maping controller issues.

I just tried a very short short race, about 30 second to complete it and while I was riding my Right Control stick changed from camera, board direction, to menu navigation, to board direction, my AB buttons changed to D pad buttons, my Y button changed to RB function, my right stick stopped steering my player, then changed to brakes and wouldnt stop breaking stopping my movement, and RB button changed to START and menu functions. WHILE I'M TRYING TO RACE.

The Y button is unable to Restart my race or reset my character untill the animation of falling over and sliding down a hill has finished and my player has stopped and stood back up. I watched a stream of anyother player playing on Xbox and he was having the exact same problem with his Y button.

Jump is set to trigger button which also acts as the crouch button, but the player wont jump untill you completely stop pressing the trigger button, and while the trigger button is still even being 1% pressed the other controlls for your tricks wont work at all so u just perform a olli jump and get no points for it. I think the trigger buttton issue might be screwing with everything else. My steel series trigger button was allways pressed at least 2%, just due to a bad sensor, I even set the dead zone to 10% but Steep (and only steep) thought it was still pressed.

This has been happening since a year ago when I bought Steep, and I rage quit cause this is unplayable, I even went out and bought an XBox 1S controller for it hoping that THAT would at least be supported. I decided to start playing again since new content was mentioned at E3, and a year later Ubi have fixed NOTHING.

I've been to Big Picture mode, turned of any support for anything, gone into game setup, set everything to off, and it still does screws up, Ubisoft your game is ♥♥♥♥! People have been complaining about this since 2016! And you refuse to fix it. Get this pile of garbage off steam!

Idk all I can reccomend to you is go in big picture mode and select your controller config that best suits you it should say browse configs this game is by default made for steam game pad controller so you'll have to manually change it

I used to solve this problem with the solution on this topic: https://steamcommunity.com/app/460920/discussions/0/1489992080507223995/, but now even this is not working anymore!!!

I had this problem before (controller not working). Try this:
Right click on game in your library -> Properties -> set Steam Input Setting to "Forced Off".
That way it may be able to get the original ingame controller preset working again. The steam controller config is messing things up more than it does anything good.

Yeah I already tried that. It made no difference.
I had this issue and refunded. Bought on PS4 but 30fps and... couldn't refund but gifted to a friend and made him happy.

Well, I loved this game but better with controller.

Wireless xbox one controller working?

Setting the steam input setting to forced off should fix the controller not working at all issue. Not sure what's the issue for King DaMuncha though (sorry).
I also refunded the first time because my controller wasn't working. I then had a similar problem with another game and got the solution for that one with the steam setting. Bought Steep back again then, tried the solution and the controller was working again. I'm using a wired Xbox One Controller. So yes, it should work that way.

I also had the problem and guess what: I had to do this:

Right click on game in your library -> Properties -> set Steam Input Setting to "Forced Off".

But I had to set it to FORCED >>ON<< and then the controller worked without a problem. (Actually in German it's called "Steam-Eingabe aktivieren")

Years later I bought a Xbox S controller and it did the same thing. So I gave up on this game.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
