If you're a PC gamer in 2017, you need a controller. Period.
Yes, some (many?) games are better with a mouse and keyboard, but some games are immeasurably better with a controller.
It's not like it's going to break to bank... a wired xbox 360 controller can be had for about $30 these days - which is a pittance compared to what most gamers on spending on their video cards alone.
I guess my point is - why wouldn't you want the option? Controller sucks in a particular game? Fine, switch to M/KB. M/KB not implemented properly due to a bad console port? NP - you have a controller. Everybody wins.
Also, when did we stop calling them joypads?
