I am fan of both series and Graphics are not a case for this one. Because both of them got pretty neat graphics. Plus there is a monster hunter online which got ported to PC and works the same as God Eater on keyboard.
Anyway, pros and cons I know from playing both series.
God Eater's Pros:
-Interesting Story
-Varies of aragami
-Custom Bullets
-6 types of melee and 4 ranged weapons
-Devour makes you stronger
-Less grind than it was in GEB
Cons:
-You can't ignore story mode if you want to fight strongests aragami even if you did play this game in past
-Clearing all missions is pointless because there is no secret aragami for completing all optional missions.
-Custom Bulelts sometime make battle too easy (in GEB, I did 1 laser bullet that breaks Chi-Yu's head, not sure if I can make it here before difficulty 8)
-Most custom bullet's can be recreated for any type of weapon = More Wasting time
-NPC AI, Kanon, come, shoot me with your healing... I SAID HEALING NOT EXPLOSIVE AMMO!
-Aragami get more predictible and more annoying rather than challeging over the time.
Monster Hunter's Pros:
-Story is optional, you don't have to finish it but it will help you learn behavior of some monsters, since it's easier.
-11-15 Weapon types (based on game you chose to play)
-GRIND!
-G Rank!
-Multiplayer missions are seperated from Single Player and more challenging.
-Armors based on "Great" monsters of this game.
-Secret Monsters that appear only when you finish all missions.
Cos:
-Grind... Grind and once again grind.
-Predictible Monsters will become pain in ass once you reach G Rank...
-You can't jump, seriously, you can't jump on PC. if you want to jump, get 3DS and buy MH -Generations.
-Hate deliver egg quests and fishing gold fish...
In the end, those games are similar. And both great in their own stuff.
While MH being more "ancient" style game. While God Eater is more modern.
If you can, play both. If you can't, play what you can :)
I glad nobody compares those to Phantasy Star series.
Id say one con that God Eater games have is the clothing selection is crap. I'm regretting playing female, because the male at least has some passable clothes, and theres nothing I like for the female side. Only issue is I dislike playing effeminate looking males in games. Monster Hunter on the other end: cool armor designs for both sexes.
Oh well, I'll start a new save in GERB 2.
MH3U had one. Weak one, but still a story.
Seriously though, all 3 are good with their own unique things, Monster Hunter is probably the least forgiving of them though.
Gameplay will always win, especially when the story isn't necessary at all and feels more like filler than anything else.
Some people will like the others more for different gameplay reasons.
What it does have over MH is the story, and the anime-style graphics, and it's Devouring mechanic. i know those things are pluses for some. Another thing that some find an upside, and others a downside, is the thing that battles can be over much faster here, due to AI companion and the Devour mechanic.
If we talk about gameplay, this game is a lot better of any new MH game(mh4u and mh generations completely sucks). If we talk about MHFU and old MH games or about MH frontier, the gameplay is not better at all.Its a matter of preferences.YOU prefer that doesnt mean everyone does and im talking after having played both games at Pro playng extent, uploading videos on youtube and a lot more, finishing them both with multiple characters(For god eater talking bout GE Burst and GE 2 on psp).I put the gameplay at the very same level as a matter of fun but as a matter of judgement i'd rather say to stop comparing the 2,cause the sistem of those games might be similar for the 'accepting missions' and 'gathering materials' part but the fight sistem is totally different and the skin/aesthetic as well.
story - god eater
my overall fav is monster hunter though, been playing for like 10 years, such fond memories
You summed up how I feel. I expected some challenging "boss fight"-esque fights, and instead all I got are recolors, reskins and close to no difficulty.
And so I think MH frontier (Taiwan is FTP up tp HR100)
