And I have to kill this thing again... at least I'm more prepared this time.
* Focus on the relevant weak points to maximize your damage. Go to this link to see where you should hit based on your damage type (crush, slash, pierce): http://wasteofthyme.com/monster/Dyaus%20Pita.
* Also for using gun he's only weak to Divine element. Note that the flash color indicates whether you're maximizing damage or not (white is the best).
* If it seems like you're getting hit too much, maybe load up your NPCs with healing shots or play cautiously and be ready to block. I use a buckler for the super fast blocking, but if you can manage the slower deployment the heavier ones reduce damage more.
* Also, stock up on all of the healing items you can bring. You should have at least 20 of the small ones, 10 of the medium ones, and 5 of the large ones.
* Perhaps your gear is under-leveled. It may be a good idea to upgrade stuff before trying to farm Dyaus Pita.

go to minute 48:30 for bestial twilight mission.
I didn't die the first time, but it was tight because I had used all my small and medium health consummables. I've since gone down to others higher difficulties Dayaus Pitas, because thoses things are horrible, but still, at least I never lost a mission ever.
I'm warning you, you may need to kill a LOT of them. At higher difficulties, they are the only source of some drops needed in a lot of recipes which have very small chances of dropping. You do get a ticket alternative but still.
Few tips in dealing with the beast:
-Get good divine gear, both gun and melee. Slot them with skills but make sure you don't have skills overlapping. Having more than 10 in a skill is useless. You're better get OTHERS skills.
-Complete important skills you may not have with your mods to cover more bases.
-Be sure to slot your predator styles with different bonuses, such as bonus against weakness for exemple. During the fight try to devour in each five way, and to remain in burst mode.
-Dayaus Pita has two phases. He acts a bit like a Vajra, but he's way faster. He has a frontal serie of electric projectiles with light tracking, Can bombard the zone with lightning projectiles while remaining static(you see the targets on the floor), and of course can pounce and hit you with his paws. Face and front paws can be broken.
The safest place to be is probably near his rear legs. He can't hit you there, and will usually try to jump around to realign with you. From there you can really deal some damage. If he goes away, you can pull your gun for a barrage of shots, be careful though to NEVER stands directly in front of him. Fighting in an open zone, especially on the right of the map with the central cover, is better. That way you get something to block his shots and a place where to hide to not get hit by a rush/pounce.
Once you do enough damage, Dayaus Pita goes into devil trigger mode. You will notice it because he will transform and take less damage during said transformation and get 2 big skeletal/demonic wings. This is when it gets real. He gains new attacks in this form. One is spinning in place and cut everything around with the wings. This hurts a lot, but you have a tell to warn you, if you can't dodge in time, pull your shield. Basically when the wings are going horizontal, you know it's bad news. Be very careful, he always does TWO spins in a row, so if you dodge the first one, wait. Don't got back into the fray, you will get caught by the second. He can also do a serie of 3 really fast dashes, which are pretty damaging and can stunlock you. The third one is the worst, where he will cut you with his wings like if it was a scissor. When that move starts, better to get into cover or position yourself in such a way he can't get to you in a straight line. If push comes to shove, try to block it. He also has a less bothersome attack where he summons energy balls all around himself and throw them at you. Thoses balls track your movements, so take that into consideration when trying to avoid. Best thing to do is to actually get right under him to attack at that moment. The balls can't go inward, only outward. To add to that, his regulars attacks also get stronger, the projectiles are faster and track more, and the bombarding move has more projectiles covering bigger areas and doing more damage.
-Use items. Stun bombs in particular are very important when he gets enraged to bring him back to a normal state. Otherwise he can really lay down the hurt on you. Hold traps can also really help you seeing he charges forward so much, you can lure him into one without too much problem. Binding and venom traps are less good, as both of thoses debuff can be handled by your teamates. A stun grenade or hold last long enough to pull off a regular charge devour, it's a good thing to remember.
-Don't forget to feed your allies aragami bullets during downtimes or when you don't need to refill your burst gauge. They are way more efficient that way.
-If you use a sniper rifle, use bullets debuffing his defense. That can really help.
-If it all fail, bring friends. Regular players will fare better than the AI.
From what I heard, Dayaus Pita was the big bad in the anime. He's quite a big deal, and emblematic of the serie, which may explain why the devs went the extra mile to make him an epic fight, complete with an unique soundtrack(which is actually quite good and blood pumping).
I've got all the weak points down, I'm using Divine, all my gear is upgraded as far as it can this point in the game, and I maxed out all my healing items and used every single one. The only thing I don't really do is use my shield because I find the controls to pull it out to be cumbersome. I'd rather just roll out of the way.
So many people look at this mission difficult as there is no real requirement to use commands to the AIs.
Do you remember that it is very important to read the mission briefings. Hibari gives you a tip at the start of this mission stating "You have X minutes to set up an ambush." That is the exact thing you need to do in order to beat this mission.
I do read the briefings, and I also use commands. The thing is that I didn't get the coordinates for the spawn point of the Dyaus Pita until I was already in combat with the Priviti. I also thought I could kill the Priviti within 2 minutes but it took a little longer than that.
You could have known that you can't kill it that fast by previous story missions... but allright.
I think the simplest way to beat this is lureing the Priviti into a corner just like Hibari says, take your time killing it and healing, do not ever chase it with your entire team.
Well I already completed the mission so all I have to do for the new one is focus on the Dyaus Pita alone.
I'd recommend faster weapons early on, but once you understand his mechanics completely, and can work a noice shield (I recommend the tower electrical resistance shield) busters seem to do the best work on him... but that takes timing, knowledge, and practice.
But to answer the OP question: Yes, the first time fighting Pita is usually a ♥♥♥♥-punch if you aren't prepared, and usually is anyway if you are prepared but haven't fought one yet.

I did try the mission yesterday (the one with the sole Dyaus Pita) and it was much easier than with the AI.
