Game Engine Used in Vanquish
Hi,
My gamedev son and I are wondering: what game engine this was made with?
Does anyone know?
Thanks in advance.

Okay, So this is a multi level answer, since it is not a simple one.

Vanquish on the Microsoft consoles runs on a Modified version of CriWare which was originally used for Bayonetta. After retooling and modifying the engine they came to have what is in Vanquish on XBOX.

On the PS3 side of the coin the game ran using a modified version of the Hedgehog engine used in Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Generations. This is the main reason why Bayonetta and Vanquish had slightly worse performance on the Sony console compared to the Xbox.

For PC I am assuming it will be CriWare in a new form in one way or another since it was more stable and "Microsoft".

I may be way off but that's the info I was able to gather. Cheers! :steamhappy:

No lol, that's impossible. Criware for both PS3 and x360

That's... Wow. Using different engines for different consoles? Wow.
PS3 had a weird processor setup, while the xbox was quite similar to pc hardware.

Yeah, the cell processor was an odd one.
But what a dream. The idea that if you bought other electronics with cell processors they together would increase your PS3 performance among other things.

I might be missremembering that E3 conference, but SONY were getting high on their own supply.

Interesting..thanks for taking the time to answer.
We're using Unity ourselves, and pretty must exist in the 'unitysphere'.
Had to actually look up CriWare! :)

err wut?
where did you get this info from?

since when did criware make engines? they do mostly audio/video compression codecs and tools

it's not as easy as you think just getting content for one engine to work in another

I'm pretty sure platinum has their own engine that they built for mad world and have continually upgraded over successive games

I thought it was a proprietary engine as well. I remember reading on PG's dev blog where the guy who made the engine wrote about implementing deferred rendering in order to support the projectiles in Vanquish.

Yep, https://www.platinumgames.com/official-blog/article/2625

Criware is just middleware.
