Gameplay tipps?
Love Bayonetta, love Gears, but for some reason I can't really get into Vanquish... the shooting feels flimsy, the slow motion feels way too slow, the energy meter depletes way too fast...

I am still unsure what the energy meter actually does - is it my shield? My life? My stamina? All of the above? I can't really judge when I am close to death.

I feel like I haven't really got a handle on the core gameplay loop, as if I am missing an essential mechanic (like Bayonettas witch time and dodge offset) - I am mostly just stuck behind cover, shooting at enemies, because if I boost out, I am quickly out of energy and just die. In slow motion.

Please help me get into this game!

The slow motion feels too slow...well that's because it's slow motion. Y'know, cause everything is going in motion slowly and it's letting you react faster to things. The WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOLE point of the ARS.

Sarcasm aside. Don't play it like a cover based shooter. Go a bit nuts, you'll die a bit learning but make use of the melee each weapon gives you. For a good time I suggest the Boost MG for a Robodick uppercut. It will never get old and will leave you giggling like a ♥♥♥♥♥.

For melee without using boost, pick up a disk launcher for instant buzzsaw fun. Why shoot a romanov's arms and legs of when you can just cut em off.

Run and gun a lot too and use your boost sparringly and you'll get the most fun out of the game. If you look through the Discussions another user posted some good advanced tips for iframe abusing.

The blue meter below your weapon selection is the AR (Augmented Reaction) gauge, which determines how long you can A) Boost for increased mobility and B) Maintain the AR-enhanced state, that being the bullet-time effect, for greater accuracy. Letting it Overheat will reduce your running/rolling speed and prevent you from re-activating the functions it provides until it fully cools off, represented by a depleting red bar. It will only enter the Overheat state if the meter depletes fully, so learning to manage your meter to provide maximum mobility and accuracy without Overheating is key to surviving later stages of the game. (Try punctuating Boosts with Dodge Rolls to maintain mobility while conserving the AR guage.)

Health is seperate from this bar and not displayed on the UI, although the glowing lines on your character's suit have a green-yellow-red progression for rough measurement, along with the standard bloodstained vision when your health is critical. The AR gauge interacts with your health by automatically activating AR-enhancement when health is critical, allowing you to dispatch nearby enemies, find and move to cover, and accelerate your health regeneration. This will always end up using your entire meter and entering Overheat, however, and it will not activate if you are already in Overheat. (Keep in mind that the AR gauge recharges faster if it does not Overheat.)

AR-enhancement can be activated manually in several ways, although it is advised to only do so for just long enough to attack weak points and/or priority targets. Reloading or using weapons with long firing cycles for more than one shot in this state is inadvisable. The most available manner is Aiming after executing a Dodge Roll, entering a crouched state and slowing time to a crawl for quick, accurate shots. Other methods include Aiming while Boosting, Aiming after certain melee attacks (kickflips particularly), and Aiming while Vaulting out of mid-low cover. (Some of these only last for a certain amount of time and/or or give you a small height advantage for better angles of fire.)

Did you read the pdf manual? Quite useful.

As for the tipps:

1) Always use ether Tactical Evade (hold down A on gamepad or Space on keyboard) or Boost to move. Don't stand still. Cancel Tactical Evade to Boost and Boost to Tactical Evade watching your heat meter;

2) If you need to cool down but there's no cover nearby throw EMP under your feet. Than way it detonades the quickest;

3) Don't reload your weapons just swich it back and forth;

4) You can instakill flamethrowing Romanov by shooting at it's fuel tanks, rocket Romanov by shooting it's launching big rocket and quickly kill any Romanov by hitting them with Boost mele attack and shooting 3-5 times with shotgun at close range.

Most tips can be found here: http://steamcommunity.com/app/460810/discussions/0/1290691308591656276/

Also some good tips and discussions in the comment-section below the actual topic. Hope it helps you somewhat : )
I know you may not like this suggestion, and I'm not trying to offend you, but I suggest going thru the game in Casual difficulty to ease in and get used to the game mechanics. Who knows, maybe that way you might enjoy it enough to go normal or hard difficulty? As I said, just a suggestion. No shame in going easy mode to get the feel of the game.

Boost - Use it to escape tough situations or close ground with an enemy quickly, don't worry about the Max Payne stuff, useful for meele attacks when you want to finish an enemy off

EMP grenades are more important than the normal ones, they will stop most enemies in their tracks

Make sure you go for headshots when you can

Learn how the upgrade system works, take extra time to open crates.

Dodges are very useful

Only use cover when needed, you are more deadly in the open, and many enemies are better hit from behind

1. Try and keep hold of the Lazer weapon, and upgrade it to max. It doesnt have ammo but uses your AR meter, so you can keep firing so long as you dont over heat. Its extremely accurate and does good damage.

2. Rolling into aim-down-sights will trigger slow-mo aiming. Good for sniping drop ship pilots. Good for shooting rockets mid flight.

3.Rolling is good, gets you out of most tight spots (essential on hard or above difficaulty). You can just hold the roll button also. (you will roll slower if you over heat)

4. NEVER use "start at checkpoint" always use "return to title screen". That way you keep all your weapon uprgrades when you die.
