Current traps me

I just got to the area where I get my first thruster. I installed it and it lets me thrust forward. I went out and tried some stuff then found myself back in the same little oubliette where I picked up the thruster and NOW there is a current pointed downward and I can't even thrust past it. So I had to quit the game.
