Memory Fragment / True Ending / Romance Guide (Spoilers!)
After playing The Letter on and off for the past month, I’ve finally unlocked all the memory fragments, the true ending, and both romance possibilities. A lot of these take a very specific set of criteria to pull off, and the devs give no hints or direction on how to do so, so I’ve decided to make a guide.

Memory Fragments / True Ending Guide

To unlock all eight memory fragments, you must kill all seven main characters at least once. Let me just say that you don’t need to unlock all the memory fragments to get the true ending. In fact, you can’t even get the last two memory fragments unless you get the true ending.

The key to unlocking the true ending is to kill Luke. In all the other endings, including the ones where everyone else dies, Luke never truly perishes, he just ends up trapped in the mansion for all eternity. Fun stuff.

A lot of character deaths boil down to a split second life-or-death decision at the end of each chapter, but others, such as Hannah and Luke, are less straightforward. So I’ve listed the ways to kill them all below:

Issabella
- Note: To kill off Hannah in a later chapter, choose to “show the letter to Rose” when prompted.
- Choose to “stay at home”, then “decline her offer” when Rebecca calls.

Hannah
- Make sure to choose “show the letter to Rose” in Issabella’s chapter to give Hannah and Luke’s relationship a huge negative score.
- From that point, just keep making choices to lower their relationship even more and Hannah will die.
- DO NOT “open the hatch” when prompted. Doing so will result in the possessed Hannah ending.

Zachary
- Choose to “look into it” or “enter the open window” when prompted.

Marianne
- Depending on whether you decided to check the ground floor or the first floor earlier, choose “stay” or “I want to stay” while in the wine cellar.

Rebecca
- Choose “head upstairs” while in the library.

Ashton
- Choose to “disarm him” when confronted with Luke.

Luke (True Ending)
- Hannah, Marianne, and Ashton must be dead.
- Issabella, Zachary, and Rebecca must be alive.
- Zachary must talk to Professor Clark. Choose “show the photo to Ash” to achieve this.
- Choose “go, leave” to sacrifice Luke and get the true ending. Hope you like it bittersweet.

Romance Guide

Getting Rebecca and Ashton to hook up is tricky since the game really wants Ashabella to be a thing. The good news is that you can make both happen without killing off any characters or sabotaging any relationships.

Note: I’m not sure if all of these steps are necessary to achieve the goal; I’m just listing what I know works. This guide also assumes that all three lovebirds are alive and well.

Rebecca x Ashton

Issabella
- Choose “go home” at the movie theater. The other option starts Ash and Becca off with a negative relationship.
- Can be nice or mean to Ash at this point. It doesn’t make a huge difference.

Rebecca
- Be sure to pick choices that boost your relationship with Ash.
- Choose “I have other things to do” when Luke and Kylie invite you to join them.

Ashton
- Be sure to pick choices that boost your relationship with Becca.
- Can be nice or mean to Bella. It doesn’t make a huge difference.
- Choose “agree with Rebecca” when you walk into Bella and Becca’s argument.
- If you did everything right, you’ll get a romantic scene at the pub; also, a scene where Ash saves Becca if you decide to kill him off.

Issabella x Ashton

Issabella
- Be sure to pick choices that boost your relationship with Ash.
- Choose “stay for the movie” at the movie theater. This option starts Ash and Becca off with a negative relationship.
- Choose “meet with the professor” when Ash offers.
- Choose “you’re not bad after all” while at the park. You need this scene to get Bella to reciprocate Ash’s feelings later on.

Rebecca
- Can be nice or mean to Ash. It doesn’t make a huge difference.
- Choose “okay, but only because Kylie asked” when Luke and Kylie invite you to join them.

Ashton
- Be sure to pick choices that boost your relationship with Bella.
- Can be nice or mean to Becca. It doesn’t make a huge difference.
- Choose “take Issabella’s side” when you walk into Bella and Becca’s argument.
- If you did everything right, you’ll get a romantic scene at the mansion; also, a scene where Ash saves Bella if you decide to kill him off.

Hope you found this useful! If you noticed any mistakes or things I forgot to add, please let me know in the comments. :)

I actually tried going for the bad relationships for the true ending path once, for the fun of it. Like, picked all the relationship lowering points possible, for everyone. Still got the true end though lol. It was also funny in its own way because the epilogue cards still go with the "a bond that only strengthened in time" line cuz no other option available obviously despite me ruining their relationships to trash. Were it any non-true ending, it would definitely warrant a "friendship bad" card.

Which also kind of disappoints me a bit about the true end. No real variety. No explaining what happened to the friendships between the three of them, any shifts in dynamics, be it good or bad. Just Zachary, just Rebecca, just Isabella, a visit to Ash's grave and that's it. The only difference is who gets to be Ashton's girl. Non-true endings are more fun in that regard, no matter where on the bittersweet scale they land.

Yeah, I wasn't 100% sure about the relationship thing, but figured it'd have to be good to get that ending (I'll update it). I agree that the true ending didn't feel as satisfying as some of the others. Even some of the bad endings are more entertaining, imo.
