Rebecca; that accent lol!
Loving the game so far, and still far too early in to write a review. I just wanted to comment on how hysterically awful Rebecca's "Scottish" accent is. I thought she was supposed to be some kinda posh English lass up until she started with the Scottish patter!

That is hands down the worst Scottish accent in the history of Scottish accents, and it has amused me greatly. Here's some pointers for you guys based on the stuff I've seen so far:

BAWHEID - should be pronounced baw (like yaw, shaw, law), heed (like Eid, heed (as in to heed a warning), need).

BAWBAG - same as bawheid, baw then bag

If I spot any more I'll update this. :)

Pretty sure it's because she was raised in Lux. It's natural to adopt the accent based on their environment.

It sounds funny alright but not as weird and funny as Marianne's accent lol.

I have never in my life (until now) heard someone that's supposed to be Scottish say "bow-bag" in a posh English accent. Not going to lie, it took me out of the flow of the story a bit as I had to pause it until I stopped laughing.

Um can we add to this Isabella pronouncing Paella "Pie-elly-uh" when its supposedly a dish native to her home country? :P

TBH this vn has enough grammatical errors and pronunciation issues that its kind of endearing. The people who put it together were so enthusiastic that they didn't language barriers stop them, and its really enjoyable anyway.

I think the way they did it made sense actually. She grew up in Lux and adopted the accent but in serious moments her natural roots tend to show through her language and tone.

Hi there! Isabella's pronunciation is actually how Filipinos would pronounce the name of the dish ^^;;; We specifically asked her VA to retain this since well... Isabella's Filipina...

Here's an example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FCm8awUu4PA

Thank you so much for playing the game despite its flaws! :D

Oh, wow, I did not realize that! I kind of spaced that Filipino has a separate language, not Spanish, and might pronounce a Spanish dish differently. I apologize for jumping on that without knowing what I was talking about!

Its a great VN. Whenever I'm not playing it, I'm thinking about the characters, etc.

Don't worry! It's understandable. Language overlaps can be very tricky especially without any given cultural context (such as this one). ^^;;;

Anyway, we're glad to hear the VN has left an impression on you! Feel free to drop by our Discord channel, too! https://discordapp.com/invite/dACNN8P

It really doesn't make sense. As OP mentioned, she also mispronounced the slang. Losing your accent is one thing, not knowing how to pronounce native words would be another.

The game's great, but doesn't mean we can't point out things like this.

He is only right about those two words though. Becca's VA and the devs probably just didn't know. I'd say it's pretty safe to assume she never had a Scottish accent to begin with, neither of her parents have it. Just because a person is of Scottish descent, it doesn't mean they'll have the accent too, as we know already. Why does she act Scottish at times? You know, young people wanting to connect with their roots a bit, that's the impression I got. It's like those Chinese kids around me myself included going around teaching other kids "pk" because it's the only slang/cuss word they know.

Ofc if YYM has their explanation, I'd be open to hear it.

Thank you everyone for the feedback! :) We understand the concern and we're sorry if the accent for Rebecca (and other characters) was not spot-on.

Whenever we ask the VAs to record foreign words, we always accompany a written and/or video tutorial on how to pronounce them. Despite doing our best, we still had a hard time imitating the diction/pronunciation since they're not our VAs native language.

We'll see if we can have those words re-recorded. But this is going to be hard and tricky, so I cannot promise anything. >.< I do hope you'll still enjoy the game despite these. :)

I wouldn't worry about re-recording it. I honestly just laughed when I heard it in the game, as there isn't a Scottish person in the world that would say it like that - even the posh ones :) It hasn't dampened my experience with the game at all, and I'm thoroughly enjoying the bits I have been able to play of it so far (the whole first section). With a bit of luck I'll be able to get stuck into it over the weekend.

Scottish dialects are difficult to pull off. I honestly thought she was English up until the "Bawbag" moment. I'll likely keep on thinking she's English as the game goes on, and I don't think it will make the tiniest bit of a difference to the storytelling, which I'm really enjoying.

Here's a video I've just found on YouTube, that has a Scottish lass breaking down some Scottish insults and rude words. Her pronunciations are correct, but her breakdown of bawbag and bawheid are incorrect - nothing to do with being bald; it is a way of saying someone is a scrotum / testicle bag (bawbag), or a scrotum-head / testicle-head. Sure we call idiots bawbags/bawheids, but to be honest it is reserved more for unpleasant people / arseholes.

We do, however, call our friends bawbags / bawheid / bawjaws all the time as a mark of endearment, and use pal (which means friend) as an insult to people we are interacting with that are not, in fact, our friends. I love Scottish patter :)

Also, Dobber actually means penis / willy / ♥♥♥♥ / p.enis.
