The most common reason I see for people not being able to complete the events is mismanaging their event currency. In these events, your #1 priority should always be the speed boost in the store, because that's the best value for your currency (and this is just as true in the main game, FWIW). For F2P players, the most efficient way to do events is to save up for an x8 boost twice, getting each one as soon as possible. That maxes out your store boost (because it's mutliplicative) and is only slightly more expensive than buying an outright x64, but the speed gain from the first x8 makes it much easier to gain the event currency you need for a second one, compared with having to save up for an x64.
Time blocks and early time skips are major run killers; time blocks lose effectiveness as you gain more from the event, and time skips are worth way less when your boost is low.
Depending on the event, a small number of gilds will usually come in handy (mostly for jobs, since you want the extra income); you want to minimize any delay in getting speed boosts, though, for *most* events, that means you can get one or two gilds between the first and the second boost and be fine, but generally no more than that (unless the event asks for it, of course). Those gilds should normally be spent on jobs; hobby gilding is usually not necessary as long as you keep your training reasonably balanced.
Beyond that, you pretty much just need to focus on the goals - look ahead a bit to see which hobbies you're going to need, shuffle around time blocks as needed, etc. If you want to plan more in-depth, we've got a guide here with all of the numbers and generall strategy tips: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2911827400 We even have timelapses to prove that it is indeed doable.
If you don't think what I listed above is what's going wrong in *your* case - then you'd have to explain more about how you're approaching these events. But they are definitely all doable without spending anything.
the only time you use it is if you get the 4$ pack
the go to is always get x8 twice
they mutiply each other
The biggest thing to consider is knowing what the goals are, where you should be using time blocks, and using exponential growth to your advantage. I always try to get at least the first speed boost from doing goals on the first day, along with possibly getting the x8 multiplier from the shop. I then look at what will need to be done on day 2, allocate my time blocks accordingly, then go to bed.
