Is there a way to select a specific unit type?

So let's say I've got a mixed army of engineers, banshees and vampires and I want to send the Banshees to scout ahead but they are all blobbed together, is there a way to select them quickly?

Maybe by scrolling through all your units via the mouse wheel, they are automatically lumped into the unit types, you might need to press E first to select all or Q for local, or your control group, though maybe not, I could try in a minute :D That shouldn't take too long BTW
EDIT:, yeah, first select the group of units via either E, Q or your assigned control group, then mouse wheel quickly through them to give individual orders to the specific unit type within your selected units.

You can also double click on the specific unit to select all on the scren.
