[SUPPORT] Potential fixes for HW:DE | Game crashing on start up.
Before i start i'd like to thank gregory for his help today in getting my game working. My game was crashing on startup and without his assistance i would never have fixed the issue.

To start with, try changing the game to the beta branch. This contains numerous bug fixes and patches which should help your game to work. To find out how to do this, visit the link here: http://steamcommunity.com/app/113020/discussions/0/810924134080836990/

If this doesnt work, there may be a local issue. Try heading to "C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Local\Halo Wars\GameConfig.dat" and deleting it to see if this helps fix the issue. (make sure to change <USERNAME> to your computer username.)

If this still doesn't work or if the GameConfig.dat file doesn't exist; try disabling your antivirus or firewall to see if this helps.

Another common solution is to ensure your graphics drivers are up to date. If you own a nvidia card, you can find your driver version (and update it) through the GEForce Experience app. If using an AMD card, you can find your driver version (and update it) through the Radeon app.

My situation was very niche, but was caused by a program known as DuetDisplay. One of the .dll files included with this product was causing the game to crash, you can visit this link here: https://steamcommunity.com/app/287700/discussions/0/490121928348994109/ to read more on the issue.

If this still doesn't work, try looking for other .dll issues that may be at fault, as these can easily conflict with games.

If it still isn't working, leave a comment below and hopefully the developers will use this thread as a bug report/fix section to address any issues you may have.

Thanks and I hope this helped, and to every player, happy Haloing

EDIT 1 -: If anyone requests you to send a DXDIAG and you don't know how to generate one, use the "windows key + r" to bring up the run dialogue box, then type in "dxdiag" (without quotes) followed by pressing enter to bring up the dxdiag window. Following this click "Save all information" in the bottom right then upload the txt file into a code block or on pastebin for the person requesting it to see.

If any more solutions are found, please message me or post a comment with your fix so I can add it to the log above. Also a quick note to the discussion moderaors/developers. If it would be possible to pin this thread to make it easier to access then it would be greatly appriciated. Thanks.

Hi!
First of all thanks for your indications :)
However...none of this is working for me. Beta branch didn't change anything, I don't have any GameConfig.dat file, tried without firewall without success, and finally didn't find any ddumd.dll file...
Might be a graphic option issue ? (Ghost Recon Future Soldier is running perfectly thought...)

i'm sending a SOS !!

If the game has never launched sucessfully then the chances are it never generated on. Try another solution above to see if that helps! :)

Please make sure you're on the latest version (and don't have DuetDisplay enabled). If you're still having trouble, could you post your dxdiag? Thanks.

tommy- Your issue appears related to your video driver. Is there a newer version available?
Tommy UK Apr 25, 2017 @ 12:49am
tried rolling back the driver, which nearly got the opening menu running, then got a message saying min requirements not met. so i've gone back to the latest drivers that were originally installed. Runs fs 2017 just fine, although not at high detail.
