"I also feel the need to mention that there are a lot of things Alex and other characters say that some people can find offensive. There’s casual sexism and casual racism, comments about “unladylike” conducts, creepy talk about women’s ages, a boss whose only attack consist of flashing his genitals (thankfully obscured by the camera angle), a very weird attempt at a joke by Alex equating the adjective “ginger” to the n-word, some very rough language in a fake Internet forum that includes people throwing the r-word and other very unpleasant insults, and a lot of comments about overweight people that border mockery.

If you can get past that..."

Well yes, I can, since I'm an adult and am not offended as a hobby (or lifestyle).

there's an R-word?
wtf? are all the game reviewers 19 year olds living in their mom's basements, never having seen the real world?
Lemme tell ya, reading the comments some ppl are leaving in this forum has been pretty hilarious, I don't get all the hate ppl have for this innocent game at all.

This game is tricky. From the screenshots i was expecting a Gillette sponsorship but after Kotaku ripped the game i was utterly confused. I guess the old saying of if it looks like a duck and walks like a duck isn't always the case. Nam sayin yo?

With the game we tried to make people talk how they really talk, and message forums act like they really act. I think sometimes people mistake the way a character is behaving as an endorsement by the creators. So, if you can read a message forum online you can handle the contents of the game. I know it's not going to be for everyone, I understand that... but this is where we were coming from.

kotaku is kinda stupid. the devs nailed the pre-2000's era talk to a "T" they even got the early internet forum speak down, perfectly.
typos and all.
game is fine, idk what happened to make ppl have such a bad experience in the game, bnut after playing it myself for 3 hours - I love it. the chars are charming in a nerdy sort of way, it feels very much like cartroons in the late 90's, complete with outdated phrases like: this is the bomb!"

as for the " creeper " part, the way the dialogue is deloivered m,ade the girl think the guys were creeping on her, and it's accurate as heck. It was a funny moment.
as for :" unladylike " that;s in reference to a guy trying to figure out what porn his buiddy was sending him ( bc he sent him porn of animals before, so he was confused as to what he was gonna get )
he starts to think maybe it's a girl from school doing :" unladylike stuff " ie, porn industry.

really, ppl put WAY too much stock in rando reviewers online.
play the game, and make your mind up for yourself.

Yeah I initiallly had no interest, in Y11k, because I thought it was going to be another stealth-Lgbt politics game like Va11-halla. Now I'm seeing that it's probably a game, that just wanted to be a game which is why the ratings are so awful.

I've noticed that the highest rated games almost always have something to do with social politics (the only form of politics that game journalists understand.) It's why Celeste (it's about the 'virtue' of abortion.) won indie goty awards over Crosscode despite how Crosscode is a much better game in nearly every way. Even the combat feels like something that Falcom would've made.

Sadly the only good Y11K rating I've seen so far is from Nintendolife, nearly everyone else including the movie site screen rants gave it a score of 5 or less. I normally don't care about ratings but I do become cautious when the disparity between good & bad ratings is that high. Humorously they all site the same nonsense, offensive humor which actually isn't offensive at all.
