Kingdom Rush Frontiers

Kingdom Rush Frontiers

Is this game supposed to be "this" hard on normal?
Im no really into this, but I have to ask people.. Is this too hard even on normal, I mean.. I have completed the first Kingdom Rush with all the achievements, so I understand the game.
My idea are to complete the Kingdom Rush Frontiers on normal first befor I continue on Heroic and Iron mode. But now im struggling with the level Emberspike Depths.

I have tryed many times, but are there any tips´n´tricks to help me continue.

I have taken some screenshots, to show you what I have tryed so far, with almost with every tower fully upgraded!

And every time, I fail the mission with the demons building vanishing ability.

UPDATE

OK, I have now done this level, by a setup of Crossbow Fort´s. I have simple underestimated these towers, and with the Barrage upgrade, WOW!

Save up your money so you can replace your towers during the boss fight, archer towers are the best choice money/dps wise. Around 2000-2500 gold should do the trick.

Yeah, you need around 2k gold saved up to beat the boss on Normal - make sure you Rain of Fire the boss at least once too.

I found the second phase of the final boss to be the most dangerous. Umbra doesn't destroy towers during the first phase and by the third phase, he has so little health left that it goes by too quickly to be that harmful. Honorable_D is totally right about using Rain of Fire. It was the key to me beating that level. Check my screenshots if you want to see the setup I used when I won.

Dragon as hero is not the best in my thoughts.
Have you tried doing NOTHING ELSE than mecha with maxed rockets :p ?

Thanks for all the answers.

I agree, this version is much much harder than any other i've played. I think they rushed it without balancing things out. Too bad, ruins game play.

What are you even talking about? They copied the same exact stats when porting over! You're all a bunch of loons.

Stats? Same?
How about enemy placement? Original game was played in browser, as far as I can tell (never played frontiers before Steam, always wanted).

Now, what happens when you put it on wide screen in Steam? Levels become WIDER (in case you didn't notice). For the most part, this change is harmless, and sometimes useful as it makes lanes longer and you have more time to deal with enemies.

Now, lets take final level with the boss on Heroic.

The level is larger, left entrance was moved about 30% to the left.

Wave 4 has 3 simultaneous summoners appear on the very left side of the screen.

Originally, there were 2 spots where you could put towers near their entrance and block them up. Rejoice! Level is 30% wider and there are no towers that can reach a summoner! And there are three at the same time, and they start summoning INSANE amounts of enemies right off the bat.

Try it on veteran. Insane difficulty. I haven't been able to get past wave 5 (I can rush wave 5 to recharge rain of fire and finish summoners, but the problem is - wave 5 has no less summoners, and I can't block them, and I can't silence them, and I can't kill them, woo hoo).

Same difficulty? Yeah, right.
-edit- oh well, I do suck at it after all. Managed to pass the damn stage. Small changes, huge difference. Its all about details.
-end of edit-

Hello, wide screen! Hello, shortsighted developers! Hello, lack of manual testing!

I know I can look up a walkthrough for the level, same way as I did with few other levels I couldn't beat, but whats the fun in that? I managed to work out a strategy that works well for the first 3 waves, but I can't get past 4-th without having 100 enemies on my screen.

I still have my doubts but even despite what you're saying, the game is still very beatable - I've got 75/75 stars and many others have as well.

If anything it seems easier because enemies seem to take longer to go offscreen, giving you extra time to put reinforcements/hero to block them or cast Rain of Fire before they finally leave the screen and take a heart.

I have to withdraw my statement. My strategy works pretty well, just defeated final level on Veteran, Heroic challenge. It wasn't my strategy that was lacking, it was my execution. The plan was flawless. A few more tries and I figured out my problem. My problem being not understanding how certain enemies in the game work and how to exploit their weaknesses (this is crucial on Veteran).

Currently 74/75, all veteran. And yes, game being 15% wider does give you some extra time. I noticed the same thing on Android version of Kingdom Rush (I completed both Android version and Steam version... will probably buy it on android to play it again :D and origins, too).

Overall, the game is quite brutal if you're a casual gamer and expect to beat it right away on "normal" or "veteran" difficulty. But its well balanced - it is beatable, as long as you understand your enemy (what enemies come in what waves, what resistances they have, what they're weak to, what towers you can buy with your money ect) and use that knowledge to your advantage.

Or, you can just do the same thing you did in KR 1, which is spam the overpowered Siege tower and fill in with Archers for support. In this one, you also toss in a necro and you ignore barracks entirely.

You have far too many barracks up there, and your DWAARP's are positioned all wrong.
