How to invite friend to play multiplayer?

Until it's actually released, it's just local co-op. Holding start on another controller would activate that.

How is the local coop in this game? Does the second player play as a character with his own health and items? Or he play as a pet or something like that? This game is tempting me if it's "normal" local coop! Thanks in advance for the answer!

just played with a friend it is more like a pet. You share items and hp, every player can pick up coins, keys and bombs but the second player can also fly.
