Dead Rising 2: Off the Record

How to Fix Dead Rising 2 Crash
I was getting a problem where I couldn't launch Dead Rising 2, it would crash almost right away.
First Solution is go into > Control Panel > Sound > Manage Sound Card Settings > Right Click your Default Speaker and go to Properties, go to 24bit 48000hz.

Still Not working?
Try Running GFWL Marketplace, if it asks for you to install a log in update do it. If you run into an error while install that says it could not complete do this.
Start Menu > Run > %SYSTEMROOT%\SYSTEM32\REGSVR32.EXE %SYSTEMROOT%\SYSTEM32\WUAUENG.DLL
Should work after that.
If this worked let me know, if anyone could pick me up the 5$ Bioshock 1 + 2 pack off Amazon that would be cool too!

What if your default speaker doesn't have an audio seting that high? What if you've tried changing the default speaker to one that does have that bitrate and it still doesn't work? What if GFWM (GFWL is discontinued, it is now GFWM) doesn't need to update and doesn't run into any errors?

Does your game crash on a black screen? Try launching it for GFWM tell me what happens

Yeah, it crashed right when it loads. I don't have any games to launch when I log into my GFWM.

Reinstall GFWM, Disable all sound devices, run game without steam

Worked. Debugging now to see exactly what breaks it. Thanks so much.

No problem
I am able to play it w/ sound. I think uninstalled GFWM and the presumably old GFWL Redistributable that was also installed, then installing GFWM again was the fix. I'm able to play w/o admin mode, w/o needing a shortcut from C, w/o modifying my audio settings, and by launching from Steam. Thanks so much!
No problem, enjoy!
Hi General Hammer, I've done everything that you mentioned and I'm still getting an immediate crash (DR2 has stopped working) every time I start up the game. I noticed that if I run the dr2otr.exe as admin (even though I have UAC turned off), I just get a black screen that stays forever with Task Manager showing that dr2 is not responding. My GFWM is working and logs me in, however no games show up on there as DR2 OTR is the only game I have and I bought it from the recent sale.

Have you tried uninstalling then reinstalling GFWL and All sound devices? Try without steam, also try verifying game cache
This is sort of working. I did all you said and it worked.. for my windows 7 at least. I'm trying to get it on my windows 8 laptop and I just keep getting the Dead Rising has stopped working message. Do I have to do something like install GFWL before DR or just uninstall GFWL, because I'm really confused with GFWL.
Reinstall it, it must be installed to play. Not sure if it runs with Win8
it works with windows 8.

had the same problem and the sound settings werent fixing it.
uninstalling GFWL and then re-installing it fixed it for me.

This is going to sound kind of dumb but what do I have to do to unistall GFWL? There are a lot of Windows Live related things in my folders and I'm not sure which is which.
