Lost Planet 2

Lost Planet 2

We could use a better understanding.
And I would appreciate if a Capcom Rep or anyone who would stand tall to answer a few questions concerning the game.

1. Was this update suppose to break players save files?

2. Was it also suppose to break online functionality? if so then question 3.

3. Is a follow-up update on the way to re add online via Steamworks? (like Resident Evil 5)

That is all, I can't and shouldn't expect anyone from Capcom to see this but it would be great to get an answer, hopefully one that will make us happy at the end of the day but if it doesn't we'll have to accept that too, keep slaying Akrids friends!

I'm fairly certain the main reason the save files are being lost is due to the new files changing users' profiles to "Player 1" which didn't have any save data for most people.

Some people may be able to recover their saves if they can find the new profile files and change the name and/or ID number, but I have no clue where the new files are located and haven't tested this method myself.

So grain of salt and all that with regards to save recovery.

This is mostly just a side effect. They basically just added the "Bypass GFWL Mod" to all their games, which sets you up with an offline profile. Offline profiles, as you'd expect, can't access Xbox Live which means no multiplayer for them.

I was using this mod before the patch and that's how it worked. No access to online functions while it was in use. (Also, for the love of all that is holy, do not press the Xbox Live button marked on the main menu, it will break your game)

My money's on "Yes" because something's telling me we wouldn't have gotten an update at all if there wasn't, but I'm not expecting to see anything until after August assuming I'm even correct in the first place.

Mmm, guess someone should look into this then eh? (not you but others) I'll find my current (old) save file in case the time to jump comes.

Mmm, so that old thing huh? I do have people that come in and wonder why they can't launch the game or get GFWL to work at all, then I wonder when I'll see that issue.

Thank you for answering these questions to the best of your own capabilities and/or through your guesswork, we should hopefully get that update whenever its refined enough.

Now my true 4th question...
When will we get the Boss Rush mode DLC/Data post outfit? Not that it's likely to happen but it'd be great to have a definitive version of the game to play.

Hah, well they got to fix the game up a bit more, then surely LP2 will return to the store, it'd be a crime to sell a game you can't play.

That entirely depends how much work they wanna put into re-releasing this game.

I can only confirm a beta branch getting 3 updates pretty consistently in 2024 before they hid the betas in December. I can't tell you what was in them, but continuous updates over several months tells me we're getting more than a simple GFWL Bypass DLL file like this update was.

The DLC getting added isn't impossible, but I wouldn't get my hopes up yet. I'm not expecting anything bigger than the RE5 treatment from last year.

Also in other news, anyone complaining about their saves getting yeeted is likely gonna have it happen again if there is a proper follow-up update like I think there will be, unless they implement some sort of save transfer or compatibility.

Your current GFWL and GFWL Bypass saves will likely not be tied to your Steam account, but instead be tied to whatever Xbox or DLL profile you used.

So if you care that much about your progress, back it up somewhere.

So, if you go to your my documents folder... your save file is still there...... so in theory they just need to patch the game to look there or have us drop the file into where ever the new save location is.

I just checked and the game is in fact still using the documents folder to look for saves.

The exact directory where it is looking for the save data is
Documents\capcom\LOST PLANET 2\Player1

The reason for this is because you log into the game using the account called "Player 1"

So.... there are two save folders.

1 - Player 1 - Is the new patched version.
2 - XBL Tag/User name - is the old GFWL version.

I tried pasting the XBL save file into the Player 1 and got a damaged file when starting the game.... Maybe someone smarter can open the files and figure out what to copy and paste over to recover files.

If we can figure out where the xlive DLL file the game is using is located, you might just be able to open it in Notepad++ and change the player name and id number to get it to load the data you want.

Though I am unsure if or how this will work with data that has been used for online multiplayer.

Edit: i meant the ini file, not the DLL. Either way, it's getting the player name "Player 1" from somewhere. Find and change it.
