GUIDE: HOW TO PLAY LOST PLANET 2 in 2024 ON WINDOWS 10/11

Capcom has decided not to fix the GFWL thing for whatever reason, and it remains unlisted. I love this game, so for those of you with a key, this is the bare minimum to get her running.

This was working on Windows 11 in January 2024, but I have done the same thing to Windows 10 so I would expect it still works there as well.

WHAT TO DO:
Download the GFWL files, run in this order and click through the installers:
xliveredist.msi
gfwlclient.msi
gfwlivesetup.exe
Dont bother with wllogin_32.msi and wllogin_64.msi. We wont need those

Try opening the game. If your cpu has 6 or fewer cores you will likely be presented with the title screen. If you are not:

if game opens to a black screen, and ~maxes cpu - download the High Core CPU Fix DLL and put dinput8.dll in the same folder as the game where LP2DX11.exe and the other executable are located.

Now that we have the game open...

LOGGING INTO GAMES FOR WINDOWS LIVE:
Now that you can see the developer splashes and menu screen, its time to get GFWL working.

Right click the game in steam and obtain your CD key. We are going to need it in a moment.

Open the game and proceed until you are prompted to login to windows live. Hopefully you have the info for the account your CD key was used on, if you already redeemed it.

When you login the first time, you will get asked for a CD key, then you will sit at either a "please wait" or "downloading profile" screen. Once you are there, leave it alone and don't tab out or ♥♥♥♥ with your computer too much. Keep in mind this can take A WHILE, and the time differs for everyone. For most it is between 2-10 mins.

Eventually it will decide that GFWL needs to update and ask you to close the game.

Close the game, and click finish on the GFWL installer window that is probably open.

Reopen the game and login again. This time it will try and download your profile, and this will take a long time. Leave it alone while it does this. Thankfully you only need it to download your profile once.

When that finishes you will be asked to create a new save file, and that is it!
You now have a functioning copy of Lost Planet 2, and for the moment that includes working multiplayer.


IF THIS DOESN'T WORK FOR YOU:
game doesn't open at all - Try uninstalling all versions of GFWL from programs and features, reboot, then reinstall from the PC Gaming Wiki link.

game opens, you see window, and it crashes - Try messing with compatibility mode on the launcher itself. Windows 7 works for some people. I am not sure why, but compatibility mode can also cause issues, so you shouldn't turn it on by default.

Friend is getting a connection failed when downloading update after sign in. I was able to do it just fine and had no issues. We both did the exact same thing

Thanks for this, but man it sucks that Crapcom is too lazy to fix this. This is why people sail the high seas instead of purchasing legitimate copies.

guys htf i can get this game. i played it long before on xbox split screen and i want to play it on pc. i realy love this game. damn its a shame that capcom abandoned lost planet. pls help me get lost planet 2

Google "Lost Planet 2 Steam Key," which will show you shops where it may be in stock. Usually sells for about $10-20, though checking now the #1 result was like over $100, so don't pay for that one obviously.

Whatever site you use, I recommend using Paypal checkout, that way you can get a quick and effortless refund in the case of a non-working key (which I've never had happen, but it does happen to people on occasion) and redeem it on Steam via the "Games" button on the top of the Steam window, then clicking 'Activate a product on Steam.'

Keep getting "Connection Error" when running gfwlivesetup.exe... not sure what to do if anybody has any idea I would sincerely appreciate it! I would like to play this game online with you lovely peeps Cheers and Game ON!

Thanks, this worked for me.

Just to add to it, after installing on the C: drive and running initially with in offline mode, I found that I could, as you said, put it back in online mode. I was also able to move it to another installation location. So far so good! I haven't tested it but I suspect that the key might be running initially in offline mode.

So I recently downloaded and then followed instructions. Instead of opening app after install, which gave communication error, I just launched the game.

After game launched, it then asked for an account. I used an existing Microsoft account that hadn't been used for anything before like that.

Game connected to the account and seems to be working fine.

If you're having a connection error, just try launching the game instead of the app, and then when it asks for an account use an existing or valid Microsoft account (like an @hotmail.com or whatnot) and bind the cd key to that and then see what happens.

I am also on Win 10 LTSB, so it should work better on "regular" Win 10 or Win 11.

just did this today 01/28/25 and it worked like a charm.
I did need the CPU file as well

I didnt launch the windows game launcher. ran the .exe and selected the few things it made me and then chose not to launch the launcher. then launched it on steam and bam worked.
