Can't Download GFWL Update, error 0x80070002
Hey guys, a friend recently got LP2 and we cannot for the life of us get it working.

He manages to sign in to GFWL in-game. What follows is a window asking about an update.
After clicking yes, you can see the update downloading for a split second, followed by the following message:
"Can't download the update. Make sure that you are connected to the Internet. If the problem persists, go to 0x80070002"Things we tried:- Installing GFWL from the installer from the xbox site- Making the login stuff clear, so he retypes his username and password- Changing the permissions on LP2DXLL.exe to allow it to be modified- Verifying game cache- Making sure his log-in info was correct by logging into the xbox siteWhat file is updated when doing this update? The game executables? If so, couldn't I send him my exe's to replace his own?Any help would be greatly appreciated.[http//no+longer+works]

Didn't work :(
I also sent him the game files that are modified by the update from my installation, but it just made his game crash.

Games for Windows Marketplace install failed error code 0x80070002

This is a common error. It's GFWL failing to fully download or otherwise gets corrupted. Every game forum that deals with GFWL has posts on this one; Dead Rising, Bioshock, Halo, GTA IV, Dark Souls before it switched to Steam.

Good news is, it does get fixed.

The GFWL download gets temporarily downloaded to: C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution

There is a log file in that directory: C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\ReportingEvents.log

The log seems to be for the this month's activities. I'm curious to know if there are failed entries in your friends ReportingEvents.log file.

- Temporarily turn OFF Windows Updates
- Rename C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution to C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution_Old
- Unistall any "Microsoft Games for Windows" software.
- Turn Windows Updates back ON
- Download and install the Microsoft Games for Windows Marketplace Client [www.xbox.com]

The SoftwareDistribution folder is used to temporarily store files which may be required to install Windows Updates on your computer.

** You can remove the newly created C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder or keep it. You could then take the _Old off of C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution_Old. If you were to delete the folder itself, it will get automatically re-created and the required Windows Update components downloaded automatically regardless.

There are other 0x80070002 fixes people have reported working. Try this first though since the other fix ideas don't make a lot of sense. But, then, neither does GFWL...

Thank you for the in-depth reply Brewmeistor.

I hope that someone else who has this problem finds your solution and it helps them, because my friend gave up and refunded the game sadly :(

I apologize for the inconvenience.

I'm really curious what his log file looks like.

C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\ReportingEvents.log

LP2 really is a hidden gem. Lack of marketing and wanna-be hipster reviewers did it in. For $5 he should try again. Once you get over the GFWL hurdle, the game runs fine after that.
