How to change car to manual?

hey just downloaded the game, not really sure how to change the car into manual from automatic i want to be able to clutch and switch gears up and down at free will, i have my controller set up with a "clutch button" and a "gear up" "gear down" button but whenever i go into the game its always switching gears up and down for me
