- Delete everything to do with GFWL (uninstall everything GFWL related) incuding:
----- Microsoft games for windows - LIVE redistributable
----- Microsoft Games for windows live market place
- Download and install the most up to date GFWL
----- Link here: http://www.xbox.com/en-gb/Live/PC/DownloadClient
Game should run fine (most important step is to uninstall the old GFWL, as installing the newest one doesn't appear to clear all the old files).
I also re-installed Lost Planet after installing GFWL, I backed it up, uninstalled, then re-installed to save time. I don't know if that had an effect. Hope that helps someone.
For example, if your Windows Vista/7/8 is installed on the C drive, LP1:CE (and possibly other GFWL-based games) may expect the game build installed under the same drive letter.
Steam client as you may be aware allows users to manually select the drive (including externally attached drives) during the initial download/installation process. GFWL client or the game may not recognize this when the user deviates from the default drive letter when installed through Steam.
If you've already installed LP1:CE on another drive, try moving the entire Lost Planet Colonies folder following the steps below:
Assumptions:
- Windows and Steam client is installed on C drive.
- LP1CE: installed on a different drive letter (assume D drive in this example)
1) Shut down Steam client (click "Exit" from the Steam menu in th eupper left corner).
2) Go to D:\Steam\SteamApps\ and delete "appmanifest_45720.acf"
3) Copy or Move the entire "Lost Planet Colonies" folder from "D:\Steam\SteamApps\common\" to "C:\Steam\SteamApps\common\"
4) Start Steam client and sign in with your account.
5) Double-click Lost Planet: Extreme Condition - Colonies Edition from the Library menu.
6) Install game to its default location ("Install under C:\Steam")
7) Steam client will recognize the build already exists at its designated location and will validate existing files instead of redownloading the game again.
8) Start game and sign into GFWL.
Thanks, worked like a charm. I'm running on Windows 10 and have my Windows installed on the C: drive (a 128 Gb SSD) and all my games on the D: drive (1 TB HDD). But all I needed to do was uninstall the old GFWL and install the version from the link. One remark though, it had been a while since I logged in to GFWL and I had changed my password in the mean while. However it automatically loaded my old password. So I had to remove the checkmark from the "remember my name and password" and then enter my new password. It took longer to download my profile data then it did to uninstall the old GFWL and install the new GFWL that's including the update it had to do right after installation of GFWL. I didn't have to move my game files and I didn't have uninstall and reinstall the game and I didn't have to move it to my C: drive.
It's annoying having to do this, but I would hardly call it gamebreaking. And it's certainly no reason for wanting Steam to pull the game from the shop. Try playing Alone in the Dark or Zanzarrah on a new machine and you'll see the difference.
