What DRM does it have?

I am tempted to buy this game. The store page doesn't list any DRM, but knowing that Capcom is notorious for horrible DRMs, I just want to make sure.

Good question. I have the "Amazon" store version which uses (I believe) SecuRom. I frequently check my startup and I do not see anything like Tages or StarForce if that's what you are worried about.

It's rather a fun game btw (buy it when it's on sale though). You may need the PhysX fix mentioned in another thread.

According to The Big List of 3rd Party DRM on Steam[pcgamingwiki.com] Dark Void has no DRM.

Dark Void Zero, the renamed, original, 8-bit port of Dark Void, has DRM with a 20 machine limit activation, again according to the Big List, instead of the 5 as the store page says.

Why did they put a DRM on a €3.99 old game instead of the newer one, is beyond my comprehension.

Actually, no. I looked up on this game just because of the 75% discount, 24 hours ago I didn't even know about its existence.

That being said, my point still is: why put a limit activation DRM on a €3.99 game?

That post is under, "Dark Void Zero". Judging by the devs response about it being raised from 5 to 20 it looks like he was talking about limit that has been raised in Dark Void Zero. It looks like he typed "Dark Void" in short and really confused everyone.

Can someone who owns this game chime in on this? Both my "enhanced steam" extension and the steam drm list show that this is virus free.

the DRM limit i would guess is tied into the GFWL client [or back end at least]

GFWL is like Microsofts DRM service as dark void uses GFWL [until july where it closes and nobody knows how we're going to be able to access our games or save files] - this has a 5 activation limit, and being the sensible folks they are, you have to activate it every time you install it, it doesn't appear to care that you're using the same account to access it - and also, MS are in full control of how many uses a code may have on that service, otherwise known as 5 uses then you have to start calling their helpline to get 1 time activation codes each tijme you reinstall


this service is thankfully discontinued, as it was very badly implemented when it was still in use....however, the games will still work until july [assuming they weren't broken as hell before GFWL closes]


i'm buying it myself because i'm tired of installing it from the disc to not get round to playing it because therer are many better games out there [then i'll stick my retail version of this & section 8 on ebay or something]

Hmm, interesting. I guess I could always install this in a sandbox and see if it adds any junk in there.

I'm not seeing anything to indicate the Steam version has gfwl. The issue is whether it has securom. But if does have gfwl its gotten past all the sites and my extension that flag 3rd party drm.

The Steam version of Dark Void does not use GFWL. As for securom, pretty sure it doesn't use that either (not tested yet as only just bought it) despite what the source above says as I remember a lot of people being angry about Dark Void Zero's DRM when it came out but nothing was ever said about the Steam version of Dark Void having it as well.

looks like securom. The usualy telltale paul.dll in game files and have to activate the game before can launch. It also installed games for windows live though didn't ask me to register/login with that.

No deactivate/deauthorise option in steam menu for it though that I can find like have seen on other games.

It sure seems like SecuRom. On your "Library" page, don't you have a "CD Key" link?
