Devil May Cry 4

What is the point of the guns in this game? (For Nero)
I NEVER find myself using them, the only actual thing I've used them for maybe once is to keep an enemy in the air for a second.

Normal gunshots are just used to keep enemies in the air, they aren't made for damage. The Charged Shot however is where the Blue Rose really shines.

If Nero never used a gun it would make one gaming theory a little too obvious (the one were Nero is a kind of resurrected version of Vergil)

The weapons in this game are so unbalanced compared to DMC 3.

Guns=Useless
Sword=Minimal damage
Devil Bringer=Mash this and the enemy dies quickly

Unless you care for stylish points, the most effective way to fight is to spam the devil bringer.

Someone should fix this with a mod.

I may be wrong, but it makes sense if you assume Nero was designed to introduce new players to the game:
He cannot switch weapons, so he's less confusing.
He's weaker--so he gets to hit stuff more times while using those weapons, which means more practice.
Then Devil Bringer special-grabs to end fights quickly, move Nero or smaller enemies into range or give some breathing-room during the animations, if there's too much happening at once.

Two other things exclusive to Nero is Tabble Hopper (better dodge-roll), and the "shield"-effect that interupts damage & enemy attacks when he uses Devil Trigger, further helping him avoid death.

In comparison:
Dante, while stronger, needs to switch back and forth between multiple weapons and styles, rapidly and constantly to actually surpass Nero in terms of damage and mobility.
He doesnt get to "stop and think" the same way nero does thanks to his shield+devil bringer+table hopper always being avalable.
Instead, Dante must use Swordmaster while attacking, then anticipate enemy attacks and swicth to Royal Guard or Trickster for shields or mobility.
Example:
Nero only needs one input (jump)+(direction) at the right time to activate Table Hopper, and he's done. from there he can extend table hopper, start another table hopper or resume attacking as he wishes.

To do the same, Dante has to press (switch style) for trickster (style)+(direction) to dash away/teleport then another (style)+(direction) to get back in range (since Dash, unlike Table Hopper, is directional while table hopper just leaves you basicly whereever you need) then finally switch back to swordmaster (^) if he wants to attack at this point(while switching to a weapon thats suitable for his current position). That's ONE input for Nero and Dante need at least 4.

Dante is very complicated, because he can do everything, and must do alot of those things.
He is also very awesome, beacuse he CAN do everthing, if played right.

Nero's charged shots are insanely useful, and help to freely build meter to get to SSS. It's a huge boon, especially in the Bloody Palace. A common thing to do back when this game was new was to rebind the button to a controller trigger or shoulder button, so you could hold it down easily while doing other combos.

This allowed you to continuously charge a shot and unleash it during downtimes between melee attacks.
I didn't realise the charged shot was so good. Thank guys!

Charged shots require you to stand still or cope with slowed movement, though. It's best to keep up the Red Queen and Devil Bringer strikes, and taunt occasionally. Keeping up the aggression in melee got me through the game as Nero, and only with bosses did I ever have to think.

No, you can still move and attack as usual while charging a shot. Nero isn't necessarily locked on while charging a shot, and neither does swinging an attack discharge.

To easily or truly unlock the hidden wonders of the Blue Rose Charge Shot, you should bind the Gun Attack to a button that doesn't get in the way of moving or attacking with Buster / melee.

Perhaps swap the bindings for L1 and Square (LT and X on Xbox controllers), so you can just charge and release your gun when needed by pressing and holding L1 while doing other things, and only Devil Trigger if needed by pressing Square.
