Rotary phone dialing

I know how to dial a rotary phone but for the life of me I can't get the one upstairs to ring even though I'm entering the 1795 code. Any suggestions?

Did you find and have a recording wax cylinder in your inventory? If so, did you place it on the upstairs recording machine?

Yes, all of that. I was reading online just now that if things aren't done in exactly the right order the telephone bit doesn't work for a lot of people. I'll have to restart the chapter and try again.

Bummer. It has been awhile since I played game so I just referred to my notes. 'Guess I must've lucked out or I just don't remember having a problem with the phone.

Sorry to hear you're having trouble!

If you haven't managed to get the gramophone next to the phone to start playing, then there's no need to activate the phone. Have a look at the gramophone in the library, as that might hold a clue.

Hi, yeah I had a problem with rotary phone for ages. Did all the steps, same as yourself. Well, after trying the phone for a few times the game froze, I force closed it and when I started it up again (my progress intact) I tried the phone and it worked - first try. So perhaps restarting is key?

Can I be a real pedant and complain that the devs have put the dialling mechanism in back to front? 1 is supposed to be the shortest (one click) and 0 the longest (ten clicks) but the dial goes the other way around in the game...!

The same for me, I had to actually go out of the game and in again so I could use the phone. I was at it like five times or so until I manage. Good luck!

Can someone please, help me out with this?!
I can't get the machine upstairs with '1975' written on it, to work.
Dialing on the phone just needs dialing, right?! No button to press or push or pull afterwards?!

Yes, just dial. Is the latch on the bottom of the dial moved out of the way so that you can use the phone? Just click on each numbered hole and spin the dial around for each number like you would do with your finger on a rotary phone.

So might this just be coming down to a glitch or something? =/ It really doesn't work. I watched videos on how it should be done on Youtube, and I got everything correctly up and running up until this part.

Does the rotary part move when you dial. The only thing to stop it moving is the latch on the bottom which should unlatch once you complete a puzzle.

Are you spinning the rotary part around far enough? I just grabbed the number and spun the dial all the way until the dial stopped moving for each number. I didn't let go where your finger would hit the bar like on a real phone.

That's all you do, just dial the number and then the light comes on in the corner and the other phone starts ringing. It must be some kind of bug if you can't get it to work.

TNT4THEBRAIN, Also, can you click on each item in your inventory so it shows the name of the item and list all the items here that you currently have.

Have you completed the game yet? There may be other puzzles you can do and then come back to this one. I completed the game without doing this puzzle and then came back to this puzzle when looking for an alternate ending.

Just to be sure, the number to dial is 1795, not 1975......

I completed the whole game yesterday, all endings with no problems at running everything smooth.

I just winged it by selecting ''restarting the chapter'' and retracing all the steps again, and it worked.
