That being said, they are all Very well made games and I would certainly endorse getting all of them when the prices are good!

However, even if you don't bother to read the letters and notes putting together the store, I still suggest playing in order. Think of them as levels 1 to 3, so starting later may diminish the experience when you do finally play the earlier one.
Cannot speak to the 4th "Old Sins" as to date that is for mobile only.
So while I guess you could play it out of order I would probably suggest to anyone who hasn't played any of The Room games yet to start with 1 and work their way through them in order.
I really hope they do a pc version for 4 because I don't see that yet, only that for IOS and Android. :<
I"m going to replay 1 when I finally finish 3 since I haven't played that in a long time ( finished 2 and 3 but 3 has extra endings you can do so working on that).
In the meantime, I highly recommend The House of Da Vinci. It is the same style of game by another studio. It's basically just like the room series, but I'd say the puzzles are slightly more difficult. And I think they have a sequel in the works as well.
