The pendulum challenge was frustrating for me too in the beginning and I actually stopped playing for awhile cause of it. Then when I returned I listened to the advice of the guru who said you need to stop thought and feel the right time to stop the pendulum. After that I hit the most difficult block on the bottom most of the time and find it easy to get good results on those challenges. It just takes a little practice. Same for the combat make sure you do a lot rolls or blocks whichever you prefer, and do the special kill strike when the enemies are dazed. Defense is most important to avoid getting hit. Then try to hit back when you can but always prioritize defense.
But for the rest, combat and skill encounters, I'm not looking for any tips, I pretty much got the gist of it. I'm really talking about the broken aspects of the game, like taking damage during invincibility frames, while you use special attacks or perform a takedown. Or the numerous times when the game simply won't register your inputs (mostly due to animation lock I believe).
Same with pendulum and the wheel. There's normally a delay to take into account, the beam/cards in the wheel have a bit of travel time, which lengthens the faster they go. But I've had encounters when, without warning, the rules change all of a sudden and the beam/cards stop right when you hit A.
I don't know how so many and crucial issues passed the testing phase.
I only used keyboard and mouse with this game and they worked flawlessly in combat and the pendulum. Maybe swap over to them. Next time I will try using a controller to see if there is a difference.
However, bigger fights are definitely messier and I spotted even more issues. Like two enemies attacking at the same time and you can only dodge/counter one, the other hits you 100%. Or even enemies doing attack cancels, most notably Northerners. It happens sometimes that, for example, one enemy does a red attack, I begin a roll, but halfway through, his attack will cancel and be a green one instead immediatly.
I think that later fights have so many enemies that the game has trouble to adjust and sends mixed responses.
