It would require a whole different game to be developed in order to be any good. The devs can tell me if I am wrong, but I just don't see how that could posibly work for HoF. And I, for one, would prefer them spending their time improving the base game.
I'd rather see them deliver an amazing single player experience.
Then a worse game with shoehorned co-op that maybe some people would play once and then never again.
There is a boardgame coming sometime sooner this year however, Hand of Fate: Ordeals.
You should probably look towards that instead if you're craving hand of fate with friends.
I have no trouble seeing how it would work in this format of game, but I recognize it'd be an awful lot of work, and practically a whole new game. I think it'd be worth it though, and it'd certain make them a lot of money...
Edit: I had another thought and added it here so as not to double post.
This would definitely require a whole new game, but one focused around an adversarial system where you have someone playing the dealer, and a handful of people playing the adventures would be pretty neat. I'm thinking of the Descent boardgame. Lots of fun and crying to be had in a game like that.
Hell I have an old post describing a very similar idea in the form of a hand of fate mobile adoptation. But i'm just saying. Defiant don't have unlimited resources and they have to turn a profit. You and your friend and maybe like a hundered other people aren't gonna be enough interest to base an entire spin-off of. I'm sorry to say but i'd rather see them focus all their time on making the second game and then continue to support the game with bug fixes and dlc.
A multiplayer adoptation out of the blue is gonna be an unnecesary drain on limited resources.
I'm sorry if I sound hostile or 100% against any similar ideas but right now we are getting the boardgame for just this reason so you really should try that first.
It's alright. I've come to expect getting jumped if I say something in the Steam forums that goes against the group think in certain places. Some people really feel way too passionately about things sometimes. You guys weren't near as bad as I've seen it, that's why I even stuck around.
I'll probably end up checking out the boardgame, but I'll still hold out hope for a video game. I have a feeling the numbers are a few more than a hundred people, since coop games do tend to have quite a following.
You never know what the situation is with a dev team. There is a chance they'll do really well with HoF2 and the board game, and decide to hire another team to dedicate to a spin off. It has happened before. :)
Ultimately, these guys feel to me like they do what they want rather than focus on what is marketable. That's why I wanted to hear from them if it's something they'd ever consider. And I only ask because I saw some of them in the forums here.
Edit: Also, special thanks @Emilio for not just ripping my face off. :D
I wouldn't have put that much effort into my prior comment if I had not tried imagining what you sudgested and came up with reasons it would not work in the current format.
Thanks a bunch, morgan. Still awesome stuff anyway, looking forward to the new game. :)
Divinity OS 1 and OS 2 have both AMAZING co-op experiences while allowing players to also play the games alone if they want... and even with these games being pretty succesfull you will still find people saying RPG GAMES WONT WORK WITH CO-OP!! I guess they never played Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights, etc
The only game I played in my whole life that was actually worse in co-op was Fable 2, but it was good in single player. So I've NEVER seen a game that, BECAUSE it features co-op, was ruined and it was a failure!
Hand of Fate 2 could be made in co-op? OF COURSE. They would have to change things here and there, but it could be made. But I understand the devs because adding co-op is not an easy task and it requires money, multiplayer expertise and more development time. And some companies simply don't have that and that's completely understandable.
I just hate the argument "It can't be done", "it wouldn't work", "it will ruin the story". These are lame arguments.
I ain't angry lol Just tired of seeing the same arguments over the years
At least this one was respectful though, and not the usual "no multiplayer, no buy" threads you usually see.
Otherwise, it would take a massive rework to be meaningful. Just throwing in a second player for the 3rd person action parts would just feel tact on.
