weapon: any
strat: dodge the red and block the green

Northerners are the easiest standard enemy in my opinion(I don't count corrupted as standard). They are certainly easier with sword and shield as the game itself suggests and there are a lot of swords that have huge bonuses against them. Being able to ripost multiple times a combo eats away at their health. Duel wield weapons don't always give you the chance to repost as their heavy weapons knock you back pretty hard, and you can't repost at all with heavy weapons, so stick to sword and shield if you're fighting northerners unless you have a plat weapon you want to use.

Really the best strat is to just get better at the repost mechanic, though from what I hear some people are having problems with it, but the devs are having a hard time finding what the problem is because many other people, myself included, have had no issues at all other than some i-frame inconsistancies. So I can't help you if your repost problem is actually game related rather than skill related.

Master Riposting against them and you'll be fine! That's all there is to it! Also as soon as you get Colbjorn, they'll be even easier than Viziroth described since he has bonus damage against them!

The Northern tribes can be ferocious fighters.

On a tactical level, Riposte is key, especially with Single-Handed weapons during their combo attacks. Numerous pieces of equipment get bonuses when using this technique so it's a good skill to master.

When planning for a challenge, the right equipment can make all the difference when fighting any specific enemy type. Try including weapons such as Winters Bane, or Scorched Blade. There are other equipment that will provide some very powerful combinations.

Good luck!

Reposite, defend green, and hit attack right away. Use swords, roll away on red. if one of them is charging toward you from across the screen, it's about hit 2 or 3 green hit combo, great time to reposite with your sword.

I don't bother with parry/riposte on them, just get a big 2 hander, swing, and right as you land the hit, dodge. You can dodge midswing. Idc if its red or green, and I handle the ogres the same way. They only ever hit me when I accidently hold dodge for an instant, which activates sprint, thus making me get hit because you take too long to begin moving with sprint.

PLEASE MAKE SPRINT ITS OWN BUTTON OR ALLOW US TO REMAP IT AWAY FROM DODGE THANKS

The main thing to know with Northerners is that the regular soldiers and barbarians will *only* perform light attack combos (2 attacks for regular, 3 for barbarian) if you don't attack them. They wont perform a heavy attack unless you attack them directly.

So if you're not on a time limit you can just play passively and riposte them over and over until they're all dead.

Trappers are the opposite, they'll throw bolas (heavy attack) at you if you play passively but will use a one strike light attack if you attack them which can be riposted. So it generally best to target them first over regular soldiers and barbarians imo (they have less hp too I think).

And obviously kill Shamans first no matter what, and always try to use a sword and shield. Winters Bane is best imo because it allows you to kill Northerns even when a Shaman is healing them (because of the execution) which is virtually impossible otherwise. That's a handy ability if you're being mobbed by 12+ enemies and can't reach the Shaman.
