How to Riposte effectively ?
So, now i had the soldiers sword for a while, and even after (for my understanding ) riposting a lot my counter is still at 5, indicating i don't do it right; so do you know what i have to do that it counts as a riposte ?

As soon as you block an attack, attack that enemy immediately and you get a riposte which results in bonus damage. You have to be very quick otherwise it will count as a regular attack.

Is a Riposte possible with a Shield too?

You'll recognise it's happening because the attack animation is a unique thrust not performed at any other time, and your damage numbers are yellow.

To riposte, press the attack button immediately after your block lands. Once again, button mashing will remove your ability to riposte - deliberate button presses are the key to success in HoF2.

Riposting can only be performed with single handed and light weapons, no heavy weapon riposting! Additionally, some weaker daggers can't riposte heavy Northerner attacks - you'll know because they stagger your character back too much.

Hope this helps!

Very kind of you. Doesnt answer the question as the guy in the video works with two daggers but nevermind...
And yes I read the first comment too but it never worked out for me. Therefor I am curious if this is only an elaborated guess or if someone is able to riposte with a shield and when yes what the trick behind is.

You can riposte with a 1 hand weapoon and shield, as well as twin weapons (if you're asking about exclusively shield, then idk how you even end up in that situation XD).

The enemies you can riposte differ however, you cannot riposte Northeners with twin weapons, other than that I am not certian about the limitations however I would like to know as well (I suspect you cannot riposte thievs with a 1 hand and shield but I am not certian).

Here's a video demonstrating sword and shield riposting against Northerners. The timing is essentially the same.

New player here, really enjoying the game so far, just can't yet get the hang of Riposte.
I want to have the token of the sword by doing 25 of them, but so far managed only 1. :D

So I have to press Block AND Attack immediately after each other?

Because if I press Block AND only press Attack after I effectively blocked the attack, it only counts as a regular attack, as far as I experienced.

You have to time it. Let a little time go between the block and attack.
Don't press it at the same time or attack instantly after blocking.

Thank you, I'll try to get the hang of it! ;)
Too bad there is not "practice" option, I don't want to restart challenges just because I'm trying to learn riposte. :D

The best way I can think to describe it is as if you are double clicking your mouse, where the first click is the attack connecting with your block and the second click is your attack, that is about the speed you have to aim for.

The window bigger in HoF1 for a ripose attack... I just started HoF2 after playing a lot of HoF1, and i was having trouble figuring this out. I could see it in the video, right away.

The timing in HoF1 is button..button, wherein HoF2 it is butt-button.. The timing is much faster, but once I figured it out, it is was easy enough to execute.

Enemies in HoF2 can do another blockable attack immediately after their first one, which is something that I never saw in HoF1. Where in HoF1, I could be sure that an attack after a ripose would connect, I see HoF2 enemies doing two green-attacks, even after a successful ripose on the first one.

I don't understand the issue, it's very easy to riposte in this game, you just spam attack after you block with a shield. Two handed weapons won't work at all except for twin weapons for some enemies. Red attacks also obviously can't be parried since they can't be blocked in the first place.
A riposte usually has a small window and won't work when spamming.. but here it does and the window is immense, I consider it mundane compared to any other game with a similar mechanic.
Block---> Spam attack, there isn't really much more to it.
