ONLINE LAG FIX (connection optimizing guide)

After weeks and weeks of fiddling around with my connection and windows settings here is the definitive guide to finally say goodbye to online lag in PES 2017.

1) Only use Ethernet,never use a wireless connection. Even if your modem is right next to your pc with perfect wifi signal you will have packet loss and suffer from random disconnections. PES 2017 is not optimized for wifi unfortunately. Since I switched to Ethernet I never had a disconnection by my side and I have finished more than 70 online matches without any problems.

2) Contact your ISP and request them to change your connection protocol to "fast pathing" mode. What this pretty much does is prioritizing ping over download-upload speed. Your download speed will be 5%-10% slower but it is a must for online gaming. Before enabling fast pathing I had 20-30ms in Speedtest,now I have 3-7ms. All ISP's offer the fast pathing protocol and it's free of charge. It also takes about 20 minutes for it to be enabled since you request it.

3) Download TCPOptimizer. Click the link below.

What it does in simple words is optimizing your connection by disabling all the unecessary calculations that windows use on your connection therefore making it more stable and reliable.
All you have to do is run a Speedtest on www.speedtest.net to check your download speed,run TCPOptimizer as administrator,choose your download speed on top,choose your Ethernet adapter below,choose the "optimal" setting at the bottom and click apply changes. When it finishes reboot your pc and you're done. You won't see a difference in ping-download-upload speed with this tool. It will only affect the responsivness and reliability of your connection.

STEPS 4 AND 5 ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT ONES. MAKE SURE YOU GET THEM RIGHT

4) Next step requires port forwarding,to check on how to do this go to www.portforward.com. It's a very user friendly site and it's easy to find out how to do your port forwarding for your router. After finding out the specific process for your router you need to forward one of the following UDP ports (5730,5731,5732,5733......5740). These are the ports that PES 2017 uses to operate online. Choose one of them and forward it (no need to forward all of them). Restart your router.

5) Open the settings.exe in your PES 2017 root folder and go to the online tab. Untick "Auto" and type the port number you just forwarded,disable voice chat if you have it enabled below as it will only make your connection worse,click ok. With this step you make sure that the game uses the port you manually forwarded for online. If you choose the "Auto" option the game will use UPnP to work online instead of the port you forwarded. What UPnP does is automatically forwarding a port when an application needs it so you don't need manual port forwarding. But it doesn't work as good as manually forwarding your ports and adds latency to your connection. IT IS THE MAIN REASON WHY MANY PEOPLE LAG ONLINE IN PES 2017. Do not disable UPnP through your router though,many other applications and games require it to work properly (like Skype for instance).

6) Disable your Windows Firewall and antivirus. They are both useless anyway. If you're paranoid with that stuff though and don't want to disable them add exceptions to both of them for the pes2017.exe .

7) Download the connection checker tool that KONAMI provides in this link.

Choose the PC one obviously. Open it as administrator and type the port number you used on steps 4 and 5 and run the tool. The results you need to get are the following:

[Check Results] We recommend you to use a setup which is indicated with a ""O"".
UPnP enabled.
Auto Setup Mode: [O] Playable
Manual Setup Mode: [O] Playable
* Manually setting up your ports should allow for a good connection.

If the results show otherwise repeat-recheck steps 4-6.

8) Go to your Steam library and find PES 2017,right click and select properties,choose the language tab and select the language of the country you live in. If your language is not supported then use "English UK". For some weird reason PES matchmaking prioritizes opponents using the same language as you do in-game. Therefore,making matchmaking take longer than it should to find an opponent. So if you live in England for instance and use Spanish in game,online matchmaking searches primarily for people using the Spanish language in game. Therefore,making matchmaking take longer than it should to find an opponent. Matchmaking will eventually find an opponent close to you anyway, but your language preference will shorten the process.

9) (OPTIONAL,but worth checking out)
If you use a DirectInput controller download x360.ce (32-bit version) and turn your direct input controller to Xinput. Also choose xinput in PES2017 settings.exe . For some reason xinput mode seems to be more responsive in game than directinput mode. On the other hand many players confirm that directinput works better for them. So it seems that there's not a definitive answer to this and depends on the controller you use and your pc. I recommend to check both options and find out which one works better for you. I personally use a ps2 controller through a usb adapter in xinput mode using x360ce and I have zero input lag in game.

Μην αλλαξεις σε Aγγλικα. Βαλε Ελληνικα απο τα properties του παιχνιδιου οχι in-game. https://s30.postimg.org/g3281f401/thrhde.png .
Και αφου το κανεις αυτο κανε verify integrity of game cache απο το διπλα tab που λεει τοπικα αρχεια. Και εισαι ετοιμος. Επισης αν χρησιμοποιεις καποιο patch μετα το verify πρεπει να ξανα ενεργοποιησεις το online mode στο patch. Η να ξανακανεις generate το dpfilelist αν το patch δν εχει αυτοματο selector. Εμενα παντως απο τοτε που εκανα οσα γραφω στον οδηγο δεν παιρνει πανω απο 2 λεπτα το matchmaking. Ακομα και οταν τυχαινει να μπαινω αργα το βραδυ (2-3 το πρωι πχ) παλι βρισκω σχετικα γρηγορα αντιπαλους. Και σκεψου δεν εχω καν γρηγορη συνδεση (5ms λογω fast pathing-8mbps download-0.80 upload). Παρολα αυτα τα ματς ουτε laggaroun ουτε τρωω disconnects.

Α και btw in-game μπορεις να βαλεις οτι γλωσσα περιγραφης θελεις. Δεν επηρεαζει το online. Το λεω για να μην τρως στην μαπα την απαισια ελληνικη περιγραφη και φετος :P.

If you chose xinput and the button configuration below is greyed out don't worry. It's normal. The game will recognize your xbox controller automatically and it will work in game.

Σε ευχαριστω πολυ για την βοηθεια σου..Η περιγραφη ειναι οντως χαλια και φετος :P οποτε ναι οταν εχω ηχο γιατι συνηθως ακουω μουσικη δεν εχω ελληνικα!Τωρα εκανα οτι ειπες εκτος απο το verify το οποιο κανω τωρα (δεν χρησιμοποιω καποιο Patch περα απο τα αυτοματα update Που κανει απο KONAMI) κατα τα αλλα και η συνδεση μου καπου εκει ειναι οπως και η δικη σου.....να δουμε καναμε τιποτα.....(γιατι οπως σου ειπα το στανταρ ηταν 15 λεπτα περιπου,εκτος απο ελαχιστες φορες που μπορει να παιρνε φορα και να βρισκε μπαμ.....anyway ευχαριστω πολυ για την βοηθεια..!!

my language Finnish is not in game, so it is English... so I am connected then to UK servers? I could choose Swedish (next to Finland), but then the game would be Swedish, and I wouldn't understand it anymore.

Using English in-game doesn't connect you to UK servers. It just makes matchmaking prioritize players who use the same language as you. In your case leaving it to English should be the best option because most players use English if their language is not supported.

Even if you use a language far away from your country matchmaking will eventually find an opponent close to you but it will take much more time to do so. Your in-game language only helps matchmaking to find an opponent faster. It won't affect your connecton quality-ping in game.

thanks. I get often opponents from Russia, even their language is supported. I am using level3 in matchmaking, and it still takes about 5 minutes to find an opponent; usually the result is laggy (or with button delay at least). I sent message to ISP about that part 2 of your post (last time he just told, that maybe I should my a new router which has more ports or buying faster internet, so that the ping would go lower too); will see if they undertand that - and if they are able to help or not. cannot find opponents on level4 connection :/
