STAR WARS™: Rebel Assault I + II

STAR WARS™: Rebel Assault I + II

White and Black Screen on Startup MacOS M1
I am trying to run rebel assault (1 and/or 2) on MacOS 11.2.3 (Big Sur) with M1 hardware and all i get is quick flash of a DosBox window opening and then a 4:3 white area centered on my screen with black bars on either side. It sits there and eventually if I press Esc enough times I can return to Steam/my desktop. Searching the internet/steam discussions I have not been able to find anything that addresses this problem. Does anyone know what could be breaking things?

Update: still happening on 11.3.1

Same thing is happening to me. Blank white screen with rebel assault. If I load rebel assault II the audio loads, but the blank white screen is there and I can't do anything other than press esc.

~/Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common/Star Wars - Rebel Assault 1 and 2

Open: dosbox_rebel.conf and dosbox_rebel2.conf with TextEdit

Change: output=overlay to output=opengl

Thank you for replying but it doesn't work.

Tried this and the game just doesn't launch. I can choose to try to start Rebel Assault 1 or 2 from the popup but after the initial DOSBox window startup the game crashes.

Who's responsible for the DosBox part of this game?

I got it run on my M2 MacBook Air with MacOS 14 Sonoma, set those values in the conf files of the games:

fullscreen=true
fulldouble=true
fullresolution=2560x1600
windowresolution=2560x1600
output=opengl

For fullresolution and windowresolution, set the resolution of your display.
