Control/sensitivity issues
So I'm playing with the mouse and keyboard and I am unable to complete the 1st level in RA1. The controls seem unresponsive at best. I thought that maybe it is better to use a gamepad but in a neighboring thread people complain about that too. Is there a way to tweak sensitivity somehow?

Not sure about a tweak but RA1 is one of the most hardcore games ever difficulty wise. I spent hours trying to complete the 1st level when I was a kid. Wait until you get to the A wing obstacle level.

Oh, YES this! This was one of my first CD-ROM games. I spent months trying to beat it. I just now loaded it up for a nostalgia trip, but forgot how freakin' hard it was! Mouse sucks. Joystick is probably the only way to go.

There's no way to improve the mouse and keyboard controls to an acceptable degree, but I beat RA 1&2 with a mouse and keyboard as a kid, so I know it's possible. You just have to play for a couple hundred hours on the first level to get used to them.

I played this as a kid and a flight stick was the thing to use back then.. o.o; UHM.. been kinda curious how this game plays without one..

@Dwapook
it plays smth around "impossiburu"
But now I got a gamepad with sticks, so I'll give it a second try

Well I beated this game with my tactil laptop mouse XDD and recently I have bought this game but this time using my joystick, its a new experience, new sensations, but it is plausible. Just be sure that you joystick is correctly centered out of the game before center the joystick inside the game. And I am playing it in hard.

Picked this one up after almost 20 years... man I remember I could breeze through this game on hard when I was a kid, must've been truly a hotshot pilot: this is one of the most unforgiving shooters ever. The controls are a nightmare and the camera guy is an Imperial Grand Moff...
First playthrough on normal after all these years I got to Level 7 in a single pass and was destroyed by the probe ice tunnels...
I made guide how to lower sensitivity.

Thx, made small update on output renderer. opengl look even smoother.

It looks like people at Dark Forces hub ( http://steamcommunity.com/app/32400/guides/ ) already know most of this stuff and any game running on dosbox can use it.

in the Rebel Assult there is no way to tweek it as per say its basically an as is game and that's how the game was designed gotta remember that the game was like 20 years ago when windows 3.1 was still around and ran under dos

it's not like todays pc where its simple to use to configure anything. I mean back over 20 years ago you would have to configure them yourself by using the configuration filing system which would be config.sys just to edit for the sound varience mouse and controller that's also including your video card as well had to know the path of each directory and where it's registered as throwing ports in and making controls work outside of windows including the cd rom. In all in all you guys complain how bad the controls are lets put it this way if you was to play it on an older pc you would have to configure them all to make it work right it was the same way with Crusaders No Regret ya had to configure every game to make it play..
