Rather than dot combos being a goal, it would be more interesting if dot combos would be used to spawn items and powerups. Maybe if 32-dot combo make a powerup appear as you move upwards and 64-dot powerup spawns a fruit. And maybe every 128-dot combo would add 0.1 to score multiplier after the game is over.
This means that dot combo would be used to improve the score gotten from ghosts and sort of like a synergy is created between dots, ghosts and fruit.
Next thing I'd change is weapon and powerup upgrade system. Rather than upgrading them with coins, I'd make them to be upgradable in-game. Remember how if you pick up a powerup, all the other ones turn into larger dots? I would make them to upgrade the poweup you're having.
This creates a tradeoff: Do you grab the dot for only a tiny extension of a powerup time but get it upgraded for the rest of the game or do you wait for the powerup to wear out to get the full time but in turn you don't upgrade your powerup?
Although I don't know what to do once the powerup is fully upgraded. Maybe add some points?
this effect is useless, and it is actually distracting while playing
11 show the powerups you have on screen
it's good to know what you have
12 for missions - actually show a realtime update of what you need,
so you don't have to memorize it, and keep forgetting what you are doing
13 move the score, and multiplier from the top center or make it smaller, or more transparent, and coin counter from the left hand side out of the way of the game
it's in the way of the maze, and covers up valuable gameplay area
14 bring back all the original fruits and symbols missing
- galaxian, bells, and keys
7x , 8x, and 9x
15 longer chains - 512, 1024, 2048

I think releasing this game on Steam was an easy port of pre-existing code and Namco was like, "Hey, why not. Go ahead and try to make us some more money." But, I doubt Namco is thinking these third-party devs should invest a bunch more time tweaking and messing with the game to incrementally increase sales. I think it'll just sit as it is now.
But that's unfortunate, because I think the ideas expressed in this thread are tremendous. Maybe another indy developer can make an unlicensed look-alike game that expands and enhances the great ideas that are already here. Kind of like how EA licensed Scrabble from Hasbro on mobile and really didn't do a very compelling implementation and Words With Friends came out of nowhere and showed the possibilities of what could be.
maybe they will or won't come out with a sequel.
however this game has been out for awhile.
if somethings a hit, and the free one had 20 million downloads.
so a sequel might be possible. who knows.
there's not much shelf life for this game, as it is, enhancing it
would help a lot.
