I use
-Pyro
-Optics
-Regen

And I'll totally recommend you swapping stealth with regen if you really care about points cause you don't really make any other than eating normal pellets with it

My PB is 52.9k with maxed Cherries, Pyro, and Beam, sooo I'll be giving my own opinions based off how the powerups are at max.

Personally the top 5 powerups are definitely Boom, Cherries, Beam, Pyro, and Lightning. It should be first priority to stay alive and not letting ghosts trap you, and all of these power-ups grant you invulnerability from ghosts touching you, lasts for a long while, and have some range to their attacks. All can be controlled to your will (besides Lightning) as well.

Beam covers SO much range, and the game is lenient enough to make a lot of minor detours to get hundreds of points real fast just from the ghosts ahead of you--it's an extremely consistent point grabber. Best powerup in the game in my opinion.

While there is a few complaints behind Cherries ruining your multiplier from better fruits, I can definitely get that to some extent, but the base points from fruits alone make up for the pellet multiplier entirely. One cherry is 60 points, and when there's so many ghosts around it can stack up quite quick. Even if you get a melon during that, that's just 180 more base points added to your score. As said before, your main priority should be staying alive, so Cherries covering a pretty wide range too is just automatically great. Second best powerup in the game for me.

Boom/Bomb, Pyro/Fire, and Lightning entirely depends on your playstyle but personally I go for Pyro because I feel in more control over the stuff I do, if that makes sense. Lightning is the worst of the three or me, because it has no effect *after* the power-up is done, meaning some ghosts may still be charging at you with no way to defend yourself. It's the reason I don't really like Optics as well due to it being a fixed-ish direction.

As for all the other powerups, I personally think Regen and Magnet are okay but not as viable since you're still vulerable to ghosts. Tornado/Twinado, Pac-Men, and Trap are pretty trash and Freeze screws you over if you don't have a good path to take. Shatter's points is okay but you aren't going to be actually around them all the time. Stealth is VERY viable when first playing but there's very little points involved. Radar and Sonar are by far the worst powerups in the game.

Hope this explains most power-ups to ya in my experience, best of luck!

Thanks a lot! ..and wow, you %100D Celeste. I mean, how? :emofdr:

Beam - Kills tons of ghosts off screen and you're invincible. Moving around for better routes will net you many kills.

Cherries - Kills a good range around you and over walls, and you get much more score. I'm not even sure you can die with this power up. Ghosts came close to me but the pulse got them before they touched me.

Pyro - Makes you invincible and it's great against Red ghosts that chase you. You also get a lot of kills after you have left the area, so it enables you to move on. You can also take cover inside the fire when the power runs out if you're cornered. This is the interchangeable one when doing quests.

Tip:

I have learned that you should stop moving to let some powers run out so you can get a new one instead of trying to extend your current one. This enabled me to get a much higher score. Kinda like original Pac-Man where players sit next to the Power Pellet waiting for more ghosts to be near for the score multiplier.
Scout ahead a little to see if there are more power ups. Depending on how much time you have left you may want to let it run out to get the new one near you or extend it to find a new one.

The idea is to always have a power up going.
