Yes to steam, yes to lan local network. we play other games just fine. this is the only one with an issue.
Your copy of the game is all bought for the SAME region?!
They can see and attempt to join my game but it gets a connection error..
When I try to go online I get a "Network error detected" but no other info.
We are running through a wireless network
2. check firewalls and antiviruses also.
3. make sure you have the SAME patch installed, there is also a fan patch called 1.17a (search for it)
4. Try useing a Virtual LaN program like Tunngle, Hamachi etc.
5. make sure you all Check the LAN button when hosting and joining in the game.
I have (as mentioned earlier) gone through firewall and antivirus issues, have already made sure we were on the same version and have tried both lan and internet.
We also tried the patch but it didn't seem to work/do anything, perhaps we did something wrong, the site we followed seemed to be written by someone who spoke English as a second language and was very hard to follow.
Hamachi might be an idea, I wouldn't touch Tunngle with a ten foot pole, its caused nothing but issues for me in the past.
Also, sometimes its good to double check everything, because may you have missed something. (in the local network are you able to see each other?)
That's why i keep telling you even though i saw your replies.try hamachi and tunngle and post results

"" FIREWALL PORTS THAT NEED TO BE OPENED
I had the exact same scenario occurring, I could view SOME of the available internet games, but not all, and could join almost all, but never saw any other players, nor any NPCs within the game. I would then soon be disconnected from the game.
I opened the following ports and have not had a problem joining/playing since then:
Ports 42800-42805 BOTH (TCP/UDP)
(I only saw 42800-42802 in use in my router logs, but it was immediately after joining a game. it might need more, but I have not encountered that need yet.) ""
