New update seems to work on Steam Deck in online mode! (Well, maybe not)
Edit: may have been a fluke. Not sure anything has changed.

I was able to connect to online servers in Xenoverse 2 on my Deck! It didn't start in offline mode like it did in the past. I was using Proton Experimental to test. If you aren't using Proton Experimental, you'll probably still get the error about not being able to connect.

That said...it still threw a pop-up that the game was started without EAC and therefore multiplayer matches wouldn't be available. So there are some limitations still seemingly, but I guess other online features are working for now? Hopefully the EAC thing can get sorted next.

Can anyone figure out how to force the game to launch with EAC? It seems like it isn't being blocked by the servers anymore, but there is still some remaining incompatibility.

if it does then i have no reason to get the dlcs for free. multiplayer is worth it!

Oooh.

I am perfectly fine without multiplayer matches. But do the super bosses or whatever they are called still work? What about being able to buy stuff in the online only shops?

I am fairly new to the game so I am not certain but I suspect that these will work now. If you can tell me how to test, I'd be happy to figure it out for you! Where are the online only shops / super bosses located?

it still won't let me connect to online servers cause eac support wasn't turned on.

Did you turn on Proton Experimental in the game's compatibility settings on Steam Deck? That has to be done otherwise it still doesn't connect for me. It will still say something about EAC, but it will connect.

yes i did, gonna try proton ge or something and see if that works. exp didn't for me though i don't use steam deck. yeah it connects to server but no multiplayer cause eac. i saw fallguys used a .so to support eac on linux like a way to route it into proton kinda like having a nexus mod handler for downloads when modding fallout new vegas.

I'll test later but:

"Raids" are unlocked partway through the story and are stuff like "fight a really strong oozaru form Vegeta". It sounds like there MIGHT be an offline version of that which was added at some point, but they are balanced around multiple player character levels of power https://dbxv2.fandom.com/wiki/Online_Raid_Quest

And I forget the name for it (and apparently the wiki that used to sort of work for xenoverse 2 is gone?) but there was like an Online TP Medal Shop or something that tended to have the best Bangs and the like.

Oh I see--yeah the connecting to server part was the main improvement I was mentioning. Still no EAC support, unless the .so method you mentioned can work. But even being able to connect to the server is an improvement because it wouldn't make it that far in the past. I was curious if the fall guys method could work for this game.
Gundato May 23, 2024 @ 5:36pm
And yup. Still no meaningful change. Just a different error message but it is still offline mode with no welcome gifts or anything else.

Darn. I got hopeful when the game was able to connect. Sounds like it’s not quite there yet.

To top it off, there was another update this week and when I tried last night, it no longer connects to the server, just like before. Sad.
Actually, this is fixed now. It was a bug for everyone, not just Deck users.

TLDR; It still connects to servers on Proton Experimental. But I don't know how to force the game to start with Anti Cheat.
