Should, Yes. Need to, no. The normal games are bad at telling the story, this game is even worse. If you want to understand better watch/read at least Dragon Ball Z. It would also be good to watch all the movies since movie characters will appear.

The game is still fun without watching the show, and I can say so because I had no knowledge of dragonball when I bought xenoverse 1. However, now that i've seen dragonball, dragonball Z, GT and about half of the movies I will tell you that you'll feel much more excited and have a lot more fun if you've seen the show. So basically if you want to have a good time, buy the game without watching the show. if you want to have an amazing time, watch the show.

It's a good idea if you want to understand what's going on better and events' significance. I'd recommend watching DBZ Kai if you want the purest experience or DBZ Abridged if you just want to know the events/characters etc. and have some laughs.

The game will have enough information so you aren't completely in the dark, but the information will likely be mostly vague to "fans will understand" extent. The first game was like this so odds are this one will be like that as well.

Yes, Dragon Ball is not neccessary but is great if you can get through the first 13 episodes. DBZ is again, not neccessary but is again a great Anime and DBS not neccessary, but watch it, GT nope, nope and more NOPE.

As long as you have a basic idea of the story than it should be fine, as XV1 was bad at telling the main story but kinda had an excuse, as it wasn't the normal story mode in DBZ games, this should be the same, but might be more in depth, maybe SUPER in depth. So I would say watch them as they are a tio of SUPER shows.

i think people should watch GT also it has lots of good parts it isnt the best no but just cuz other dont like it doesnt mean everyone should just pass on it and it isnt that long so why not

Not..really.. It's not even made by the same company, it's comfirmed to be completely 100% non cannon. There is no deus ex machina device changing this to be another time line, it simply never ever happens.

Watch the show. Buu is the strongest enemy they face in DBZ.
