This is a great explanation for why I don't like Super.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfHBrhMM5bk&feature=youtu.be

A video breakdown comparing the animation and art style of DBZ to Super. I have a lot of issues with Super (largely lore contradictions, forgettable villains, and terrible transformations). However, my biggest gripe is by far the uninspiring and laziness of the overall animation of the show.

It's pretty sad that Super isn't even on the same level as Z half the time when the latter was concluded 20 years ago...

It's the Artstyle largely, If they took the time to actualy detail the characters the same way they detailed the characters in Z it would make up for it. The complete ignoring of past elements from Z was pretty shameful as well. The entire "Oh you can unfuse by taking the potara earings off".

Super Makes GT look like a masterpiece

When the hell did they state that in Super? the closest I remember is Kibitoshin defusing, and for that they used the Namek Dragon Balls, this is clarified in the manga IIRC, during the fight with Beerus during the BoG stuff, Elder Kai ordered Kibitoshin to gather up the Namek Dragon Balls just in case, but when turned out Beerus was a good sport about the whole ordeal, Kibitoshin decided to use them to defuse instead, because according to him, "being fused felt weird".

Agreed. GT at least maintained the art style and animation of Z. Twenty years later and Super looks like an animated fan fiction being drawn by amateur interns who never saw an episode of DBZ.

DBZ is "better." Better produced. Better animated. Better choreographed. Feel free to actually watch the video and see some of the main reasons Super falls short.

What's ironic is Toriyama came up with the art style for DBZ to be easy to draw and quick to animate for action scenes. It was already basic. Yet somehow, Super can't even emulate an art form Toriyama crafted for speed and efficiency.

i'd rather watch a good anime like HxH or Boku No Hero Academia or One Punch Man ... seriously guys Z was never that good to begin with. Is super worse? god yes... but not that much worse. Same show with the same issues and the same problems... and you wanna know what that problem is?

Goku... he is the shows #1 problem and the show would be 1000x's better with out him end of story...

Well if Toriyama had actually stuck to his original plans Goku would have stayed permanently dead in the otherworld and Gohan would have been the protagonist. Unfortunately, that was not the case. DBZ was amazing up until the end of the Frieza Saga. After that it slowly went downhill and it tanked with the Buu Saga. Super is just continuing all the nonsense that was wrong in the Buu Saga.

I find it a little odd that you have to defend Super, a brand new and current anime, by picking out the occasional flaws you find in an anime created in the early 90s.

I'm not saying DBZ was perfect. Yeah, we can all nitpick and likely find something wrong with Z. However, overall it is just superior to Super. To not see that is to be blinded by the rose-colored glasses of a new Dragon Ball anime. Super is just lazy. Z already had a simple and basic art style for the purpose of being quick to draw. Super can't even emulate that and does far worse on a regular basis.

You are more than welcome to prefer Super if you like, but I don't think many will agree with you that Super has done a better job in terms of art style and animation than DBZ. That just is not the case and this video highlights many problems with Super and why it likely will never get better.

What still bothers me is your absolute apologist stance towards TOEI with regard to an anime that is being made right now versus one made twenty years ago. Super should be superior in animation and art style. Every other anime I've ever seen that is continuing a franchise decades old (Gundam as a perfect example) looks far superior to what it offered twenty years ago in terms of art style and animation.

There is no excuse for Super to not be of higher quality. TOEI is just doing a half-baked job and it's an easy cash grab for them as they'll come across forgiving fans, like yourself, who will make excuses for their shoddy work. I'm happy you find Super's quality to be suitable for your tastes. As I've already seen Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, and Dragon Ball GT before Super ever existed, it's a slap in the face with regard to the precedent TOEI set decades ago.

I just can't buy into your strange argument that Super looks better than Z. I've seen all of Z. It's not always pretty, but it has never looked as bad as Super either.

Edit: I'll never understand how you can defend Super with sorry animation like this.

Many animators from the 80's-90's have retired and new animators aren't that good like the old ones were. Also, they don't have a big budget to get extremely talented animators.
I couldn't give a damn about Super's animations, I never liked Z's artstyle and overall I prefer Super than Z. Super has a lot more humor, it knows when to get serious and when not to get serious and that's perfect. DBZ was way too serious and had too little details and lacked many elements a good anime should have in my opinion
DBZ was horrible compared to the original Dragon Ball, which was perfect. Super tried to combine the seriousness of Z and the humor of DB and I think they succeeded.

Well, I don't think you'll find there are many that share your opinion. Dragon Ball wasn't "perfect," but it was enjoyable. Z is absolutely my favorite with the Frieza Saga being the peak of the series. It declines slowly through the Cell Saga and then tanks in the Buu Saga. Super is just continuing everything that was bad about Z post-Frieza Saga.

I'm glad you enjoy Super though. There are just too many negatives that make it hard for me not to criticize a series that should at least look better than its predecessor two decades old. I wouldn't really say Z was all that serious, given the ridiculous amount of filler that was in that anime. That was nothing but slapstick comedy 24/7.
DBS may have a better Animating Technique potential but it is being used poorly. The current animation teams ability to successfully imitate Toriyama's Art Style sub par to say the least. You can even see how bad it is in the still shots in the Xenoverse 2 Opening Cut Scene.

DBS is amazing, only problem is the faulty animation/artwork. Even Naruto weekly fillers had way better animation at times.

Yep. It really makes me cringe. Super fans just don't know how bad they have it compared to the previous Dragon Ball series.
