First both of you need to complete the Story segments of Saiyan Saga and Early Namek Saga. After that you should both have online play unlocked and can form a team at the team registration booth to play together in PQ.

Steam does not work to invite your friends. Here is what I have done with a friend.

One create a room for a Parallel Quest and your friend joins it. Finish the PQ. Then, you should see your friend in the recent players list. Go to his profile and add it to your favorite list. Now you can invite him whenever you want.

steam DOES work. set a private slot and invite your friend from PQ. then yes, add to favorite, then go to kame house for continuous play.

They actually added Kame House as a multiplayer Hub. You're meant to go there to form a team or something along those lines. I haven't played with it too much.

AFTER you form a team, your team goes to kame house, this way you can continuously play and switch missions without needing to reform team each game, or at the very least simplifying the process of choosing and playing missions so you don't have to travel back to parallel quest giver every time

You didn't need to reform a team in X1 at all. I stayed in one for hours helping a friend grind.

it's very inconvenient to not do team things in kame house, kame house is a much simpler process once you enter with your team.
