Offline not available?

I just purchased this game during the summer sale for my kid.

I understand to play offline I need to start Steam in offline mode. I've tried that, and once I'm in the game walking around everything is 'offline,' even the offline battles. It just constantly says the offline battles are not available.

Not sure if I'm doing something wrong or what and just want my kid to be able to have a few fights against the computer/AI.

Just start the game with DBXV2.exe in steamapps\common\DB Xenoverse 2\bin or use a shortcut on the desktop.
You should be able to play always offline ^^
No need to start Steam in Offline mode.

all that stuff is in the beginning offline, you need to complete the starting quests to get access to all the other stuff, even in offline mode
