This isn't really new for Dimps, they like to change up auras and make some characters feel special.
Teaspoon Nov 26, 2016 @ 7:17am
When standing still the aura is yellow with red flares/accents/highlights. The red parts (while standing still) work and move around the aura similar to the lightning effects of SS2.

The redness of the aura intensifies when dashing or charging up however the actual base color of the aura is still yellow.

If it bothers you that much you can always replace the SS4 aura textures with the Super Saiyan aura textures.

Same reason Vegeta, Raditz, and Nappa's auras are red, Cell's is green, etc. For some reason they don't keep auras consistent in the games.

It's as Reu stated above, Dimps tries to make the characters a little more unique from one another. The auras aren't consistent between the games that Dimps does vs the games Spike does because they each have their own way of doing things. For instance Dimps likes bigger, blockier character models, using more light sources, etc, while Spike tends to use sharper character models and textures/colors that are closer to the anime's color palatte.

SSJ 4 Goku isn' the only one. Cell has a green one, whereas he clearly demonstrated a SSJ-like yellow aura most of the time.

Or Namek saga Vegeta who should have a blue one but has red instead, its odd.

they don't need to. this is a game based on alternate timelines, if they wanna make character auras look better, they can, and oh boy do they fit better.

It's not odd, it's simply Dimps trying to make the characters more unique from one another.

Cell is a primarily green based character. It makes sense to give him a green based aura if you're trying to separate him a bit from all the yellow auras in the game of which there are plenty/many.

I personally like seeing the more unique character differences and wish there were more of them. For example as I've been doing my own personal texture mods of late it becomes more and more noticeable how many characters share identical skin tones so I've been tweaking a few here and there like giving Goku his GT skin tone to help separate him a bit from the other characters which I find personally to be great give how many cutscenes he's in.

Maybe they fit better in your mind, but when I see Cell packing a green aura I just want to scream. He always had a Super Saiyan aura, except in his final battle with Gohan, in which he had a SS2 aura. So naturally I went and edited the aura file to give him his proper auras.

The red SS4 aura is definitely off-putting. I can't remember now if SS4 included lightning or if it was just the yellow aura though, so I haven't changed it yet.

It reminds me of an old chit-chat I had with friends like years ago about lightsabers. Yeah seriously.

Some people (included me) still thinks that lightsabers should be blue for Jedi and red for Sith, with the exception of Luke's lightsaber (he made it green cause it's the color of "Hope") like in the original trilogy. Some people actually loved purple, yellow and whateverothercolor lightsabers in the prequels.

Aura colors shouldnt be there just to "make a character a bit more cool" imho, auras are usually something that tells us about the character's behaviour, sometimes you even notice little changes of heart.. Vegeta is a perfect example, Cell is the perfect (HA!) exception since he was made with cells of the Z warriors.. Bad characters usually had purpleish auras and red was only for Kaiohken, good characters had blue/white auras and SSJs had yellow auras cause it was stated they had a "pure heart". Now we have orange/red SSJGod and cyan SSB, so who knows.. and that's not Dimps' fault, they were made by Akira Toriyama.

In the end both lightsabers and auras colors aren't something "crucial" on the subject of liking or not Star Wars or Dragon Ball, times change and so do the movies/animes. Look at 60's/70's Marvel's Avengers, or the 90's...

It's just about being a "fan" and having a chat on what we love with other fans, those colors in the end don't take away anything from the source material. For some of us they'll look silly and for others they'll be badass. They're just different point of views.

It's just boring having so many characters with th same elements.

Note that in just that post you mention Cell, Gohan, and SS4 all of whom in the series have the same aura despite all of them being vastly different in terms of design.

Ki blast colors are also boring in the sameway where as back in Budokai 3 Dimps made a number of characters have their own specific ki blast colors/animations. Now that ki blasts are tied to Super Souls that can be equipped by the player I'm guessing they decided to go the generic yellow route with them so that you wouldn't be stuck with a color you didn't like just because the Super Soul you chose fits your playstyle.
