Perfect Cell - Zenkai Boost Abuser

I need some anime fans right here. In the show, Cell explains that he can regenerate from a single cell from his body, and also gain the Zenkai Boost from his sayian cells. Doesn't that mean that he can repeatadly self-destruct (which, as demonstrated in the show, seems to leave a single cell of him alive) to abuse Zenkai Boost and become the strongest being in existence?

Possibly, though the Zenkai effect could be weaker as he's a mix of many races to the point of being unique, it could also be that the effect doesn't trigger by self destruct but instead that it has to be done by an opponent to be effective or even activate in the first place.

This is weird. It was mentioned by Vegeta that the Zenkai cannot be received if the wound is self-inflicted, BUT Cell is specifically stated to receive a Zenkai from his botched self-destruction. I guess I'll count this as a plothole, then.

I'd say the damage caused by Gohan is what gave him the boost prior to him blowing himself to bits(or a singler bit). Remember, Gohan did enough damage to him to make him vomit up 18 and caused him to no longer be able to sustain his perfect form all without killing him.

Cell was too narcissistic to give his self destruct his all. He couldn't bear the thought of killing himself, so he held back.

Yea, Cell's getting stronger was just a plot hole. If he self destructed it should not have made him stronger (but it did)

I'll just restate it, He took a TON of damage from Gohan before blowing himself up. That's where his boost came from, not from his suicide move.

I'll just restate it, He took a TON of damage from Gohan before blowing himself up. That's where his boost came from, not from his suicide move.

They have to be on the verge of death for the boost to activate if i'm not mistaken.

They just have to recover from damage. The amount of damage taken is what dictates how much stronger they get. Thats why Vegeta wanted Krillin (or was it Gohan?) to ALMOST kill him so that dende could revive him. He got much stronger than if they had just, say, broken his arm.
