Welcome newcomer. Here at Steam, following the rules is our number one concern.
That's the thread we need, but not the thread we deserve.
/THREAD
Game can't get itself into shape with all the fan bloat put into it and going to keep getting put into it.
I make it a point to not cheese people unless you are one of the following:
-Block Spamming (trying to fish for Perfect blocks)
-Backflip Spamming (Hit Hit BACKFLIP! Run away!)
-Running Away (hit & run players)
-Someone that will not stop spamming challanges, so I force you to leave me alone!
- Step Vanish Spamming might seem like a "no cost, no counter" move, when infact it isn't. Step Vanishing causes your Stamina Recovery to stop until you cease to use it. The best counter? If you don't have full stamina, land on the ground, get stamina back, then attack. You'll have a Stamina Advantage over your opponent, regardless if he hits or not. Lead with Ki Balls to make extra sure you hit something, or "poke" with attacks (Light or, als Female Majin, Heavy -> Ki Ball -> Step away) to force a panic vanish.
- Countering OP moves like Punisher Drive and Aura Slide (or Super Falcon Punch- I mean, Super God Fist) requires patience. While you cannot do much when you're being combo'd, you can prevent getting hit by those as an opener. Play safer, and try to Step -> Guard towards your enemy to see what he's doing. If he misses a Super God Fist (or hits your guard), you have a small window of time to hit back. If someone uses those moves in a combo, you'll need to know when your opponent tends to use it in a combo. Often enough, snapping after the 3rd or 4th attack makes them whiff the Super. It's not an optimal counter, but at least it costs them resources and a follow-up. And aside from Aura Slide, most of those moves, while fast and annoying to get hit by, don't hit nearly as hard as similar options.
"But they can follow up!" Yes, and you regain stamina while being hit. Tank some hits as much as possible, and use your stamina wisely.
- Backflip is one of those weird Supers much like Fake Death that people really seem to hate. Just don't rush into those. Backflip can be somewhat countered with a timed Ki Ball (if they Perfect Block, at least you lose no Stamina). Fake Death can be Perfect Blocked for free Ki and Stamina Loss for your opponent.
- Block Spamming has three counters which I find reliable: Don't attack immediately and delay an attack (worst case, you hit a normal guard), step-grab, or Step -> Sidestep, then attack. Charging attacks can be a great mix-up, but don't be obvious with that.
- If someone runs away, either equip a soul that forces them to play aggressive (hello "Neither Kami nor Piccolo" or "The real hell begins here") or use every bit of time to gain stamina, then attack. Alternatively, go for a time-out win.
Just my two cents on playing against, uh, common tactics.
