Also, there's no need to create a new layer and paint anything. Just bake thickness and use that.
When you say it's not working, what do you mean? You can't bake it? You can't view it? You can't export it?
I use it on this project just fine and I go into that within the first 3 minutes:

At about 9:30 on that video is where I go to actually use it. I chose the emmissive channel.
+1
Yep, you don't need high and low poly models for this.
If you have a low poly mesh with a high poly mesh selected in the baking then it will generate it from the high poly. If you don't have a high poly mesh selected in the baking it will just bake(generate) it from the low poly.
I followed your video, and it was REALLY helpful! However, I was looking to use
Thickness map in relationship to Transmissive channel which I HEARD is how people do
sub-surface scattering for character skin. I know there are many ways to do 1 thing, but
in particular I wanted to learn how to use Thickness map with transmissive channel.
You guys know how to do that ... ? ?_?;;
I've used it on a high poly mesh without any problems. It's does not use transmission but hopefully you can build upon/adapt this base to do this, I've not done this myself yet but it would seem like a good place to start.
This is something I will be looking at doing over in the next few months as I've got a mostly finished head sculpt to bake and texture.
Update :
Just had a quick look for info on using transmission within SP2 and found pretty much nothing at all.
I've had a very quick play around with trying it out myself and got nowhere either... I added a transmission texture to the texture set and setup a material and mask(using AO) with only the transmission channel enabled. Nothing happened at all as a result of my efforts...
My guess is none of the shaders I currently have in SP2 support transmission which is why I could get no realtime visual feedback? Could anyone confirm this is the problem, thanks!
If the shader is the problem can anyone provide a link to a free SP2 compatible shader that does support transmission? Thanks again!
Any info or links to info on this would be very much appreciated :)
Thanks, that confirms what I wanted to know as well :)
