Need help!
I recently got Substance Painter 2. However i've been having two problems with it so far:
1. I modeled an M24 Stielhandgranate (German stick grenade) in blender. However, when i try to import it into SP2, the model seems to be flipped, since i only see the inside of the mesh.
why does this happen? How can i fix it?

2. I see the lighting of the environment, however, there's no background. The environment seems to be disabled (i see only grey) and i can't seem to activate it.

If anyone could help me, i'd really appreciate it.
Thanks :)

1. flip normals in blender

2. On viewer settings panel, environment opacity

In Blender, open and select your model in edit mode - make sure you have everything selected (a key) then hit space and type 'flip normals' - enter and save.

In SP2, find your Viewer Settings tab and if the Mode (dropdown) is set to Material, then you should see "Environment Opacity" and Exposure and Blur and Rotation near the top of the panel.

I've tried inverting the normals in blender, and while the model looks right in SP2, the shading on it looks off. The shadows are projected on the inside and the side opposite to the light glows for some reason.

Also i found out how to fix the Env. problem ten minutes after posting this lol

Can you post a pic of how it looks?

Sure thing

Here's how the model looks with just the regular normals, as imported from Blender:

You see it appears to be "inside out", but at least the shadows seem to work properly.

This is after i flipped the normals in blender:

The model seems to be working now, but there are quite a few things off with it, like for example the shadings are inverted, notice the direction of the sun in the environment in relation to the lighting on the model.
And when i turn on the shadows the model turns all black:

Perhaps there's a way to fix this without having to flip the normals?

Hi,

I'm not sure what could cause that.
Did you just flip the normals rather than use "recalculate", try recalculate out if you have not done so already?
What file format did you use for exporting from Blender into SP2?

Maybe unwrap it again just to be 100% sure that this is not causing anything odd either, it should not be but I've not seen anything like this before?

Have you imported or baked a normal map for this model?
Magnus Peccatori Feb 18, 2017 @ 11:13am
I've tried exporting both as .FBX and .OBJ. None of them worked. I also just recalculated the normals, but it doesn't work either.
I've also unwrapped the model several times with several different seam patterns. Also nothing.

However i haven't imported a pre-baked normal map. How can i do that? Can it be done directly from blender? I'm going to try that.

I asked about this because I could see it causing the problem, if you don't have one then this is not part of the issue and making one will only complicate things further at this stage.

Can you post your .blend file? If so I will take a look at it and see if I can figure out what is going on.

I uploaded it to Mediafire, however, it won't let me post it here. Maybe add me so i can PM you the link?

If anyone's having the same problem as me, you can solve it by setting the current scale to 1 by selecting the model and pressing CTRL + A and clicking on "Scale", since apparently having a number lower than one can flip the normals inside out for some reason.
(Thanks a lot to Mr Chappy for the solution)
