THERMOMETER PUZZLE: A STUDY IN "AM I MISSING SOMETHING HERE"?
Hint paper with thermometer on it shows 8 (stars) : 2 (therm incriments) ratio.
Matching the poster patterns to the poster; then counting the stars of each pattern; then applying the 8 : 2 ratio I didn't come close to what your solution is.
I would very much appreciate knowing how you came up with your answer because no part of it makes sense to me.

Me to. I kept looking at it and could not come up with the logic!!!

English is inexperienced in me, but I try to explain.

Outline star on a background means minus number.
Painted star means plus number.
5 painted star + 3 outline star means "5-3".
then,, you can see a figure with six tops on the wall.
When I explain it clockwise,
top=4 next=5 next=-6 bottom=7 next=1 next=-3
then you find a handwritten memo on a cardboard box.
Three figures are drawn on the memo.
At every figures, four points are linked in a line.
That is answer.
for example, first figure:
every four points means 1, 5, -3, 7, then calculete.
1+5-3+7=10
next 7-3-6+5=3, and 7-6+4+1=6
then you set 3 thermometers.

Thank you nakatetu, that was an excellent explanation!

Yeah! Enjoy the game.

1. WHY WOULD "OUTLINE" MEAN "MINUS" AND "PAINTED" MEAN "PLUS"? AND HOW WOULD AVERAGE PLAYER KNOW THIS?
2. WHERE WAS "OUTLINE" AND "PAINTED" ON PIECE OF PAPER?

All hins you need are folloing 3 items.
hint1 : a handwritten memo on a cardboard box.
hint2 : a poster ;geometical figure is drawn.
hint3 : a handwritten memo on a table ; thermometer figure and star calculation formula is written.

To get the hint3 memo, you must proceed to another room.
The room is long space - something like corridor, and
in the room four bust statues are placed.

You must induce your answer from given hints.
And we can not deduce perfect answer from the hints.
Induce and try whether your induction is correct or not.

if you look "hint3 memo", you may understand why one star is "plus" and
another star is "minus".

OH my god I feel stupid. This is the only puzzle I have looked up the answer for because I was sitting there thinking it had to do with ratios for actually over an hour and a half getting the same wrong numbers over and over again. Now that I realize that it was simple addition and subtraction I'm pissed lol.

i am still not understanding this...maybe because math is not a strong point for me. can anyone offer a hint for the average person to understand?

the diagram you find shows which groups of stars to use for each thermometer. the white stars and the blue stars have opposite signs + and minus. for each thermometer, add up the white stars and sepaerately add up the blue stars. net them together subtracting the total of blue from white or vice versa and you get the number for the thermometer
