Please add support for private servers and PVE
Building is great
mining is actually pretty fun

but the one server approach means you get toxic people who get enjoyment from just killing undefended players. Those that mistake PKing for PVP.

Private servers would allow players to enjoy the game and what it has to offer. We can then do PVP right on a private server, fights against equally matched players etc. On private servers we can evict the ones who just go around blowing up unarmed mining vessels and boasting about it like its some kind of achievement (man gamers have got toxic these days)

PVE would be awesome to see too, npc ships to board and raid, or flee from.

annnnnd they're back folks. Carebears that can't understand the distnaces in space games saying the pvp concept is to much, but won't stay or play the game long enough to matter.

and here we see a pvp idiot in his natural habitat.
Notice how he calls people that do not want to be blown up for no reason a "carebear"? this is a standard defence mechanism, he wants to have easy targets to blow up rather than fair fights between equipped pvp players.

There is merit in having both choices... also it might help with server issues since even at a lower population, there are connection issues. The game simply isn't designed to have private/singleplayer servers set up, it could work but it wasn't what they intended. They want the blood thirsty players to be countered by protection companies, mercs, and police-related factions, but I wish anyone luck in forming such a group when everyone is focused on grinding and trying to protect themselves.

Maybe at full launch, when the game is finished, we might see their vision of player-perseverance actually happen. It can't happen now in this unfinished state, which is to be expected of a game in alpha, plus the super low population. I think the coding language they made, the lack of real structure they want us to compensate for. Whether they wanted this or not, this game comes across as "Fill in the blanks for us, not because we're lazy or lacking, but because it would be awesome/player-made : ) " kind of vibe. They are trying to create this foundation for us to build off of, but I don't think it's a foundation a large community wants to actually build off of.

pve will not save this game at all. its over carebears. leave. go play space engineers or minecraft.

the reason this game flopped was the lack of gameplay other than rock mining. it was advertised as a pvp experience which people did pay for. they just failed to deliver. them adding braindead npcs for you to shoot at won't change anything.

After designing ships in Starbase, designing a ship in Space Engineers just feels like Duplo with a sci-fi skin. So I think I'll pass on that.

You know that not wanting to have your unarmed ship blown up for no reason other than another player wants an easy kill, does not make you a "carebear" right?

pvp between evenly matched players sounds fun, what people are doing though is killing unarmed miners and yelling "thats pvp!!!!1111!1!" or insisting people stay in one area if they dont want to have thier ship blown up. Thats not PVping thats PKing

Those kind of players (shoot everything pirates) exist in Starbase and that's just a fact of the game.

Keep and eye on the Aeries News Corp discord for news on pirate activity. Contact anti-pirates like the Commons group if you want escorts, or better yet arm yourself.

We took a large slow ship through the Origin-Elysium gate this morning, but we took two laser-tripod gunners on the back and a heavy-fighter escort with us.

Pirates are not invulnerable. Take precautions and enjoy destroying their ships and getting attacked by pirates can even be fun. :winter2019happyyul:

this is how the game is played. Cry all you want, if carebear is to much than hermit may be more akin to you. Make friends, win/lose, wage war, create connections. Why just go benign long enough to get bored, bash a game for not meeting your preferred play style. Nothing in life is perfectly the way you want it to be. If it was, that would make life not worth living.

Those that assume i shoot to kill are correct, however I do not go over near peer, that would be suicide. Carebears are no more than a lucky treat along the path. How stupid could you be to leave yourself completely defenceless.

NOW, this game lacks to much and restricts far to much at the same time. TIme will tell if it is worthy of spending my life's existence on. so rejioce as i will not be around for a long while

The devs have said they are moving on to other projects, that this will be put at a lower priority...not dead, but on the bad end of life support. When you cant get started in the game as your obliterated constantly by PKers, its not likely the game will recover.
Shame as I love the building system and that damage system would be awesome in true PVP . Oh well

just a thing to note about hosting a "server" this game uses a peer to peer architecture where 9 servers are required to host a universe. each server does a specific task like ship storage inventory storage and saving ships in their locations. there is also the "universe server" where it constantly loads the world. however this isint enough for the game to be functional if you only have the universal server. it requires its other co-servers to make the game function

Like star wars galaxies that had a server per planet
Mir 3 (mainly the king files) that had a seperate server for login, game, and a few others I cant remember.
Atlas that has a server per map ( want to host all the maps and your looking at an outragous price)
I am sure theres more examples but the number of servers does not change the request even if every server need a seperate machine
Oobfiche May 14, 2022 @ 4:41pm
i have never heard of any of those games besides atlas, and yeh atlas had a server for each cell for the entire map. ill find more data about their architecture however, i only recall each cell being 5km cubed with roughly 9 seperate servers performing a different task

PvP is PvP, the developers made the mistake you just made of trying to differentiate between what is and what isn't acceptable PvP, thereby irritating a substantial chunk of players.
