You cannot afford to be a person who doesn't want to do PvP in a PvP area of a PvP game.
If you wish to be a Miner or Trader or Hauler then you have to take precautions such as either hiring an escort to escort you to your destination or provide protection while you mine.
Or you can be part of a company and only go out in the PvP area in a group containing both fighters and miners.
If such things do not interest you then your only options is to purchase high value or rare ores in the Auction house.
Now if none of this interests you then this game is simply not designed for you.
You can exit the safezoneboarder at any point of 31415 kilometers.
Past that point you can go even further and further.
Space is pretty vast.
So the most dangerous place to leave the safezone is right at the border - after that it becomes nearly impossible to meet players.
You're a little dot and the entire asteroidbelt is filled with fog that hides you.
Some people decide to leave their shipmarker on for everyone to see within 100km.
They come to the forums to whine about it after being "visited" by one of those players.
If you want to be a happy person: Don't fly anything outside the safezone that youre not willing to lose.
Make a ship for the safezone. Make a copy of the ship. Fly the copy outside.
Else you're going to be butthurt when you crash it into an asteroid or lose it otherwise.
And: Turn off your shipmarker when you leave the safezone.
Basically try and think like a pirate and where the easiest place to catch people would be. It takes more time but better to be safe than to lose your ship. I actually find it kind of exciting most times as I smuggle the good stuff back to base. :)
There is a safe zone you can stay in and ways to help avoid detection in the pvp zone but the reality is if you dont like PVP then it might not be the game for you.
As for the PvP zone, I've been in it many times and have yet to encounter another player. As long as you turn your transponder off and don't hang around near the safe zone border the probability of encountering another player is incredibly low. Just make sure you aren't followed into the PvP zone.
To give an example of just how unlikely you are to encounter other players the further you go into the PvP zone, my ship spent a week in the PvP zone unattended (ships don't log out when you do, they persist regardless of where they are, so if you log out in the safe zone your ship sits around ready to be attacked). Despite spending a week unattended in the PvP zone my ship was untouched. I did find another ship in the PvP zone however, unattended and with the transponder on. Had the transponder been off, I would have never found the ship.
Ultimately, just make sure you have a backup ship if you're planning on going into the PvP zone. As safe as it is, there's still some level of risk, so be prepared for that risk and don't use ships you can't afford to lose.
1: take your first ship into pvp zone or pve zone its free and you can get more. get the basics to craft a few ships. at worse you lose 20 min of work in the pvp zone not going too far. If not just stick to safe easy peasy.
2; buy your ships or design it
3: have enough to print 4-5 ships
Eventually you'll have nothing to do. why do you need ores outside of safe zone if you make more money in safe zone.
grind easy, spend easy. enjoy pvp on your terms or go "explore" whatever that means.
it's really that simple and the devs cushioned it to make it really streamlined i you follow their intention. The devs even made a post about how they thought people would progress and of course no one did it that way.
