Alright this game looks sweet but dual universe is out now. Is it worth waiting for starbase?

I´d keep waiting.
The content of DU i noticed in their Trailer so far is not that new to me. Endless freedom as any sandbox promises with a mixed build mechanic of Empyrion and Avorion.

Two different games. Same idea, different implementation. I can't suggest either since I only have access to Dual Universe, which is lacking in some areas.

I looked into Dual universe and as much as it looking awesome, it looks swamped with issues at the moment like players not able to login or gain access at all to the game. If theyre smart they are ironing out there big issues before releasing it on early access as alot of steam players are very critical of a EA game regardless of disclaimers "There will be problems and bugs".

as the leader of one of the larger clans in both, as a community clan leaders would be wise to invest in both and not put all their eggs in one basket. As a single lone player it depends on what you like, as they both have different feels to them. though usually our members plan on playing both and right now net a good 24/7 20-30 people voice lobby so id say with it being the game that's actually playable for communities right now its the one people are paying their attention to now since you cant buy SB.

I was probably gonna go DU but then they made it subscription instead of single purchase, and the pricing and in game purchases put me off. Plus I think this now looks more simple which will probably bring in more people.

i kinda also would prefer DU over this tbh

I have DU and for me it has been a hot mess, riddled with bugs. I have put in a request for a refund almost 2 weeks ago, and never got a reply back. Ill end up having to force a charge back with my bank if I want a refund. I'd personally stay away from DU, but thats my experience.

Which one ever has the most "space" in it will be my choice. Tired of all the non "space" games that play like you are underwater. Lack of orbital mechanics, having space-jam or always "on" stabilization with low speed limits.... just doesn't cut it. Don't think either one meets those standards but DU looks to be the closest.

Nothing makes you feel dumber than realizing you only had 1 sec of jetpack fuel left, 1 sec after you leave the airlock. You were rotating around to line up toward your docked ship when you ran out, so you are slowly rotating and have no fuel to stabilize. Your buddy is 10 min away mining an asteroid, and by the time he gets there you'll be about 1 km or further away....if you got enough air to last long enough for the rescue. You could just commit suicide and open your helmet visor, but you'd loose the suit and inventory. Since your buddy is not too far out and you should have enough air to last you call him for some help. When he arrives you see the bright flash as his ship exits warp about a 1 km away from your orbiting base. He can't pick you up on radar, so you have to guide him to your location. Hoping he can get a visual on you.. Maybe use a flare if you got one, or throw a grenade or something he will be able to see. Then suddenly it dawns on you.... you had a fire extinguisher the whole time strapped to your tool belt that you where going to take to your ship. Using it you stop your rotation a little bit, and turn yourself directly away from your base. Lining it up you pull the trigger, hoping there's enough fuel in the extinguisher to push you the opposite direction. Luckily it worked, and you got enough to to turn back around. Bad thing is you couldn't see the alignment well enough and are going to miss the base. But, now all your buddy needs to do is sit by the base looking in the right direction and wait for you to float by.

That scenario actually happened to me in another game (That never made it out of ea sadly).... Just to be funny, my buddy acted like he never saw me float by....... for a few more minutes. Those seemingly inconsequential blunders add so much to the feel of the environment and gameplay if the game allows it to occur.

Yes, that bothers me as well in all the space games out there, because it takes a lot of immersion and "space feeling" - even more as a physicist. Same goes for speed limits and auto breaks. Shouldn't do much harm to add a more realistic space behaviour, as long as you have possibilities to gain more control over it (which would be a nice thing in Starbase to consider when building and programming a ship...).

What makes you think Dual Universe is better at this?

Honestly I was gonna make the plunge and drop $20 on 3 months of Dual universe because I have been waiting ages for Starbase and don't entirely expect it to come out this year. The problem with dual universe is a lot of people have said they have had login issues and when I went to make an account last night I couldn't get the sign-up button to work after filling out everything for an account. This is on top of a lot of people saying there is a lack of complete features and issues with lag since everyone is on one server. When I was unable to even create and account and I know I would be playing on paid game time I just said "screw it back to waiting for starbase". :winter2019sadbulb:

Hi I will give my DU review as somebody who is currently asking for a refund, but will be as impartial as possible.

First, much of the log in issues have been fixed. That said, the game still feels like a Steam Early Access title than an actual Beta.

Second. The game has WAY TOO MANY hard core fan girls. You say anything critical, and you get mob action hate instantly.

Third. People with I7 9700K are experiencing overheating issues, even with water cooled cpus, and they say our systems are the issue, when in fact, its the lack of HT causing AVX to overheat, but God help you suggest something they did caused that.

Lastly. Support. WHAT SUPPORT? A guy has waited 4 month without a reply, I been waiting 2 week, decided I am goiing to the Bank on the 18th to file fraud charges to get my money back.

Why? Their store page lists 1 set of requirements, but they game actually requires a much stronger pc than that is listed on the store page.

If none of that bothers you, then the game runs fine once away from the main area, and Feels alot like empyrion galactic survival but on a bigger scale with a monthly fee.

I will wait for Starbase

It wouldn't let me sign up using my preferred in game name.

Hellion was a stillbirth. Devs now finally cut they loses and bailed out. As it was expected.

DU wont do better. At no time they can pull of the amount of concurrent players with their feature set properly synced over a network.

Pretty much the same goes for Starbase. No matter what level of staged PR fights they show us. Once clutter starts to accumulate connection latencies will crash down on performance like Thors Hammer. Simple basics of math and physics.
