Can we set a speed limit in the Flight Computer?
As I understand it, there are currently 2 speed limits:
1. The total game engine speed limit, wich is a hard fixture
2. The point at wich "space drag" and engine thrust perfectly negate one another

The downside of space drag, is that we always have to give thrust forward or we would stop
At the same time, thursters are more energy, fuel and heat efficient at lower speeds. The slower we are, the less velocity we shed via drag, so less of the thrust goes towards maintaining speed.

So it would be nice if we could set a 3rd speed limit. Something where we can tell the FCU to limit thrust so we do not got faster then Xm/s in any one direction. Wich in turn can help us keep a ship controlable and conserve both fuel and energy.

We might be able to archieve something like that with with a Unidirectional lever that does not drag back or some YOLOL script, but I feel like a specific setting might be more beneficial.

Currently it's not possible to set a speed limit in the FCU, but you can adjust the thrust and also limit lever output ranges for the same effect.

Are these the same arcade mechanics we see in most space games? Speed limits, magic thrusters that negate our speed as soon as we release thrust. Always on magic stabilizers for roll. I don't want to make another mistake at trying to purchase another game that does space all wrong. If it's like Hellion....you got me... If like ED, SE, X4, or any of the others that make space feel like a joke....I'd like to know.

A speed limit is inherently unavoidable, as CPU's and Networks do not work infintely fast.

The slowdown is not a thruster thing, however. It is a setting of the engine. A rule of the universe, so to speak. Everything slows down, including your debris.
If you want full Newtonian physics, SE is the game for you and not Starbase.

Starbase has it's own limitations. But it also has deeper mechanics than SE or other similar games.

SB has structural durability of the ship. You need to have a solid beam frame to support your plating, devices and sustain stress produced by thrusters. Fail to do so = ship breaking apart.

SB has advanced center of mass mechanics that is used for thrusting. The lever rule is applied for both forward thrust and turning. Balance your ship perfectly - and your maneuvering thrusters wont touch your propelant reserves. Fail to do so - and burn out your propelant by constantly balancing your vessel with thrusters.

SB has unique voxel/vortex engine with exceptional destructability. Unseen pretty much anywhere thus far. Punch real holes in armor, fracture it to pieces, repair the damage on per-voxel basis and etc.

SB has a very detailed approach to ship design. You have no grids, no ship sizes. Same parts go for any vessel types - from a speeder to a gunship. You can build anything in the game and make it as detailed as you wont ever be able to do even in KSP.

As for speed limits - there is a common mass-to-thrust formula present, but with some non-linear additions like space drag resistance and top speed variable (that makes going faster harder with each added m/s).

That is purely a challenge for ship designers as to how to make a light and fast vessel with enough power and propelant to achieve and sustain desired speed.
